davertfnewman Posted August 17, 2024 Posted August 17, 2024 I've never as been into Marvel as DC, but after I read Batman: The Long Halloween by Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale I went over to their Marvel work and bought Spider-Man: Blue. Similarly, they also did Daredevil: Yellow and Hulk: Grey later, but not read them. Blue is good, though, feels more like a reflection on the nature of the character with a story running through it, so you get to meet the regulars and it's not necessarily related to anything else. Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted October 6, 2024 Paid Members Posted October 6, 2024 Apparently Joker Folie à Deux is a comic book film, so I have to discuss it here. it’s no Megalopolis, but it’s really boring, the musical numbers are crap and Lady Gaga is wasted in the little material she has to work with. That said I didn’t think Joker was amazing, it was fine but not the masterpiece it was being sold as. On the flip side my wife who recently saw Joker for the first time thought it was excellent, so I guess some will like it. But yeah, it wasn’t for me. Quote

I mean I knew the cast was strong but didn't feel like the show needed to exist. But I ended up loving it really, especially Patti, Aubrey, and then the emotional stuff towards the end that I won't spoil. But Kathryn Hahn has an incredible range as a performer. Quote
Paid Members hallicks Posted December 18, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 18, 2024 It’s not normally my thing, but for various reasons, I’ve watched Kraven the hunter. It’s not great, but it’s perhaps not as awful as it’s being made out to be, and miles better than the worst film the year (or any year) Argylle. The first 40 minutes is alright, I thought the actors playing the young versions of the main characters were decent. Russell Crowe tries hard but doesn’t have much to go on. The main villain is rubbish, but I thought the secondary villain was pretty good and quite interesting. The big shot lawyer lady is an incredibly bad actor, although she wasn’t helped by having some of the most appallingly shit dialogue ever committed to hard drive. Overall, not the most novel of concepts, bad VFX all over the place (like everything these days), a crap main villain (but his top henchman is great in a really understated, man-who-organises-your-villain-business-trip-and-occasionally-wields-a-gun kinda way), some extremely egregious ADR, but a couple of decent turns from the child actors and Christopher Abbott, and I didn’t come out of it hating my life, unlike Wonder Woman ‘84. 5/10.
