I don't think we will need to wait that long. It is what will happen after the midterms in 2026.

If Trump even allows them to happen or just ignores the results it will be a total mess.

If the US makes it to another election cycle, it will be like the 'elections' in Russia or Belarus. The country is done as anything resembling a democracy. Even if/when Trump kicks the bucket, you have those two cunts Musk and Vance to step in and continue on the destruction, backed by the evil tech lads like Thiel, Bezos and Zuckerberg. I have never had less hope for the world, the early days of the pandemic were way less scary than this.

How can the world deal with Trump? It seems mad to me that the leader of a nation resorts to the lowest of the low, childish playground tactics of being offensive and condescending to another world leader, then beg off when they return that aggression. How do you rise above that, avoiding the relentless baiting while trying to negotiate. Vance as the toady, rearing up behind Trump as soon as Zelenskyy bit. Pack of vultures. Sad thing is, this'll play well with a nation who, even in times of peace, constantly bombarded its people with messages that military might goes hand in hand with freedom. Can the world just cut the US off? Trump's big push was America First; what would it take to prove that America can't survive on its own? That it isn't the heroic world police it claims to be?

I’m not entirely certain he even has any beliefs or values given that he once claimed to be ‘never-Trump’, outside of ‘whatever it takes to advance his career’.

At least Pence had principles, even if they were batshit. He refused to go along with Trump on January 6th; although, if he did, steps might have been taken to prevent Trump from ever running for office again. There’s no chance Pence would have sat in at meetings with Starmer and Zelensky, making comments purposely designed to get a rise out of them; never mind make the kind of speech Vance did to European leaders.

Someone with a bit more knowledge & nuance may be able to expand on this, but IIRC for most of the USA's existence it has pursued a policy of isolationism.

Didn't want to enter WWI, Didn't want to get involved in WWII.

It's not a natural World police force.

A massive recession over there plus gas prices going into orbit would make even MAGA fuckwits notice that this presidency isn't going well.

With Trump I think the best bet short term is unfortunately what Starmer did. Appeal to his vanity with state visits and whatnot whilst Europe long terms starts to plan to not be as reliant on the US military for support. They are a basket case of a country now and could be for a very long time. That's if they can recover.
