When I wor a lad, America was the dream. The promised land! The place of movies, stars, amazing weather, adventure, Disneyland, Hollywood, THE WRESTLING, glamorous people, money, exciting things to see and do. We couldn't wait to go on holiday there and see it all.

I talk to my 15 year old daughter and her friends and America is nowhere on their list of places to visit. "Why would we go there? It's all getting shot and Trump."

Most of what he's doing is exactly what people voted for, right now the majority are likely quite happy. 

It's when it hurts them in the wallet (even more) that the dissatisfaction will kick in. Even then most won't publicly admit they were wrong as ego prevents that (just like Brexit over here). They'd rather blame someone else than accepting responsibility for a bad choice.

Brexit is always a good comparison especially if you consider this an iterative process of the same or similar people working out the most efficient way to manipulate. Large number of ridiciulous rage bait stuff that diverts from the money making stuff (contracts to friends, tax cuts etc). Exhaust the left and make them look hysterical (is it a nazi salute? is it not?) making it increasingly harder to fight these things and arguably instilling a depression and acceptance that your way is just going to win so why bother fighting. 

Keep reiterating that this is what the public voted for so it must happen. Keep telling your supporters that you are of the people and representing the will of them thus accusations of facism and nazism simply widen the gap between your supporters and those of the opposition. Play into identity politics because most people can't really comprehend how economies and policy really work (not condescending, I don't understand these things and I turn to people I trust to explain them too, my trusted people just aren't rich white blonde personifications of our countries' worst impulses)

Play up to the idea that you're an idiot that doesn't know what they're doing. People will be flabbergasted that you're in power and question why that is. Doesn't matter, you're in power and if they don't think there's a method to the madness it's harder to fight. Have unelected right hand men who go around doing what they want. People will joke about this but that doesn't matter because they're doing all sorts of completely illegal stuff with little to no oversight and if the illegal gets too noticable then you can sacrifice them.

Leave the country an absolute mess but having consolidated wealth and power whilst doing so. Everythings enough of a state that the next people in power are probably centrist left that is a friend to your buisness interests with bonus ultra right hate groups circling overhead waiting for their moment.

Sounds a good idea. Will be a deterrent going forward to other countries who might think about causing bother. If you don't play nicely with your toys, they'll all be given to the USA and you will have to go and live with your Mother-in-law in Egypt.

The Gaza stuff is depressing and terrifying. I've been reading a book called Wild Faith, which is all about the extreme right Christians in the US, and how much power they wield. I'd underestimated a lot of it, not least just how much Trump is beloved by them. And how many of them seem to genuinely want the apocalypse. I'd just finished the article on Israel when Trump made his announcement, so it was useful context.

I knew some of it, because I'd read this article (by the same author as the book) a while back. It's a useful basic explainer to why so many of them have an interest in Israel - again, I'd underestimated just how much money and power is involved.

There's an excellent/similarly terrifying documentary on iPlayer about the same subject, "Paying for Armageddon". I went into it knowing nothing and expecting a Louis Theroux style "laugh at the mad Christians", which probably increased the effect it had.
