Lesa 'Yo-Yo' Worley, who became somewhat iconic as a female trucker in the 1970s and 80s, recently passed away at 68 after suffering from multiple sclerosis. 

A true badass.

I met him at some non-league games. He was working for the South Yorks FA as a ref assessor, I think. Big, imposing but softly spoken guy. I always thought he was a good ref too. Seemed to toe the line well between not being unapproachable and not being everyone's mate. Never seemed to make really catastrophic errors but from my memory, never seemed to get the really big games on the domestic, Euro or World stage either.

A real sad loss.

I couldn't believe he was still alive when I saw he was listed as a consultant on the TV series Day of the Jackal, and I remarked on it to my long suffering girlfriend at the time (six months ago?).

So she told me the news today, I replied "I thought he died years ago"? and then she reminded me of the above. Not long left for me.

He became a cult figure with me and my mates. When we were in Magaluf about 10 years ago every night we’d go back to the room to get ready and he was part of one of the shittest game shows you’ve ever seen on ITV called ‘Freeze Out’. Pet Sounds is one of the best albums I've heard. God Only Knows is a beautiful song. One of my fondest memories is of Glastonbury 2005. My mate Ant and I had said we would see him on the Sunday afternoon in the "legends" slot. It was arguably the highlight of the weekend. All sat in a field in glorious sunshine partying along with Beach Boys classics and some stuff from Smile. I'm glad I got to see him in that environment. I saw the start of the notification on my phone which said "Brian Wilson, Beach Boys" and immediately tried to steel myself for it. There'll be a lot of their stuff going on the jukebox tonight.

Absolutely gutted, all I can say. I don't think I've ever gone more than a few days without listening to the beach boys or just singing bits of their songs to myself. God Only Knows still brings me to tears after hearing it hundreds, or more likely thousands of times. What a body of work to leave behind though.

Poor Brian Wilson.

My fun fact/coincidence about him. He was apparently obsessed with the song "Shortenin' Bread". In 1987 he cut a track (not a good one, sorry Brian) for the soundtrack to of all things, "Police Academy 4: Citizens on Patrol". Which by coincidence has a scene that opens with Capt. Harris singing to himself in his office. What's he singing? "Shortenin' Bread".

Hope he's at peace, he was treated terribly.

That's a really sad one, I know he hadn't been the best for a long time but it's just sad, he was amazing, i can't even imagine what it would be like hearing Pet Sounds fur the first time when it was released, it's amazing and beautiful now but imagine buying it the day it came out and hearing it for the first time? We had God Only Knows as the first dance at our wedding and in 2016 he played the Digbeth Arena in Birmingham, a small outdoor venue surrounded by railway arches and it was just amazing, Al Jardine did a lot of the heavy lifting that night but Brian just seemed really happy and I think God Only Knows was the only song he sang in full himself which brought me to tears, only to be called a soppy twat by Mrs W. Poor Brian, at least he's not suffering in his head any more.

The thing with the Beach Boys is that there's about 20 songs or more that could qualify as "most perfect song of all time".

A truly incredible talent and a huge loss beyond words. We won't see his like again.
