Whatever your leanings, I think we can all enjoy this poll

There's no beating Streeting! Unless you are literally anyone else.

In happier news, a nice birthday present for me, Reform have been ousted from leading my local council

Not to shit in your cornflakes, but it's difficult to see how an alliance of Tories with Greens and Lib Dems is going to work.

They are all party hoppers here, one of the councillors has been in every party apart from Reform so they can make it work, and it's never going to be worse than Reform.

On a local level, it's not as difficult as you'd imagine.

Burnham has a way back in, IF Starmer and the Labour NEC allow him onto the ballot paper. This could be very ugly indeed if Starmer and the NEC block Burnham again.

There must have been some sort of deal between Streeting and Burnham. Otherwise why would he resign without triggering the leadership contest?

Streeting probably just didn't have the backing he needed.

The fact that no big names resigned from the cabinet, was a pretty big sign that Streeting didn't stand a chance, imo.

Because he knows he doesn't have enough support to beat Starmer, but the writing is on the wall so resigning now gives him a stronger footing for whatever comes next.  Same as all the Tories who eventually resigned under Johnson and spent the next few years trying to act like it was based on principles rather than self-preservation.

The Conservative leader there has now been suspended by the Conservatives. Definite implication he told the other councillors "oh yeah, central office have definitely OKed this" and was bullshitting.

None of the 400 odd MPs we've got are good enough to challenge Starmer so we have to trigger a by-election to try and backdoor Burnham in to parliament is certainly a look.

The MP that stood down is only 32. I assumed he'd get a pensioner and convince them to do the noble thing, but a 32 year old? Christ knows what he's been offered.

His majority is only 6,000 too and Reform just absolutely smashed Labour at the locals. Burnham is going to have to run on an explicit 'if you want rid of this cunt, vote me' platform.
