This is a stupid question but with something like inheritance tax, whats to stop a man and his wife and say their two sons each being equal owners of a farm, and then as they have children making them co owners as well, so they never have to pay inheritance tax as no one ever "inherits" it.

I haven't eaten today so this might be mental.

Not a stupid question.  Pass it on, or stick it in a trust, 7 years before you die and you pay nothing - aka "Estate Planning."

Nothing to stop you doing that, however you have to do it t least 7 years before you die  otherwise you still have to pay inheritance tax (not sure why they picked 7 years), and also there has to be an element of trust that family won't try and sell, screw each other over for money etc etc

Often missed point is that you only pay the full amount if you die within three years. After that it drops proportionally every year (32% after 3 years, 24% after 4, 16% after 5, 8% after 6, nothing after 7.

You can also get specialist life insurance policies that pay out to cover the inheritance tax if you die during the 7 years.

I do wonder how people like my Grandad, who worked on a dairy farm every day for probably nigh-on sixty years, would feel about people who call themselves farmers being able to take a day or two off for a drive down to London in a fancy, spotlessly clean tractor.

Being just off the fens, naturally the local news was fairly heavily covering this protest. Highlight was probably when they were talking to a couple of hard done by sons of the soil hard working impoverished farmers, with several mercs parked outside the front of their "small" farm.

I grew up in about as rural a part of Norfolk as you'll get, surrounded by farming.

"You'll never see a farmer on a bike, son" my old man said to me once. Funny how things stick with you.

I don't like Haigh but I think the pushing her out is disgraceful. In 2013, when she was in her mid 20s she was mugged and reported it to the police. She mistakenly said her work phone was taken, but she was young and mugged so she made an honest mistake. She got charged with making a false report to the police.

a) Why aren't the police out after real criminals instead of going after a victim? Well we know the answer, they're cunts.
b) Who the fuck really cares, I don't think this makes me (or anybody else) lose trust in MPs.
c) Claiming 20k worth of gifts makes me lose trust in MPs.

The Tories saying being guilty of fraud meant she shouldn't be in charge of £30bn. Acting like she was part of a huge scam. The party that handed out dodgy PPE contracts taking the moral high ground with money, fucking hell.

It’s harsh, yes, but hardly innocent. If you think you’ve had your phone nicked that’s one thing. But she didn’t. And her switching the phone back on is how the police knew she had the phone still. And colleagues saying she wanted a newer phone because other staff members were getting them may or may not be true, but she pleaded guilty to it.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see her back in a few years time as often happens to MPs.

Lots of talk about devolution in Hampshire. What was once sort of spoken about in murmurs has really picked up traction in the last couple of weeks and months (not divulging anything that isn't out there publicly)

I hope they make me Director of Crisps.

First I've heard of it but I haven't really got my ear to the ground in English local government these days. As far as I can tell "devolution" to counties basically means that central government withholds some economic development funding unless they accept the horrendous executive mayor model. No actual legislative power is handed down like it was here on the Celtic fringe in the late 1990s so unfortunately you're not gonna be First Minister of Hants & Wight anytime soon.

Maybe not counties, but England should be split up into devolved regions with devoMAX - North, Midlands, East Anglia/South-East, London, South-West, at the very least. England as a whole holds too much sway in the Union, and London too much sway in England.
