What an absolute tool. How can those idiots not see that by lurching to the right, they’re essentially telling people that Farage has a point? And it’s a fight they can’t win - if tackling immigration is seen as the solution to all of our problems (when in reality, in many cases limiting it is making things worse) and people’s lives don’t improve when you actually do take action, they’ll simply think you’re not doing a good enough job and go for the party promising extreme steps. Argue against what Farage stands for, not in favour of it.

Yeah, the last thing Labour need to do here is lurch further to the right. If they had any brains the local election results could end up working in their favour because people have voted for Reform to do something they're actually unable to do. And they're likely to fuck up what they actually can do. Let them fuck it up and then point out that they couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery.

I'm absolutely enraged by this. Completely stopping care homes from recruiting foreign workers is a policy straight out of the Reform playbook. It sounds like something the Tories would peddle in the lead up to a general election but not actually go through with. But this is a fucking Labour government proposing this. This vile prick might be the most spineless leader we've ever had. At least the Tories had an ethos that they followed, no matter how disgusting it was. But this dickhead just goes whichever way the wind blows in his attempt to cling onto power.

Still, at least it's not that unelectable Jeremy Corbyn in charge, right?

They can’t out-Reform Reform, no matter how racist their policies are. They will always be framed as too soft by the press and the measures decried, regardless of how draconian, as not enough by Farage et al. They’re fixated on this one section of the electorate that they’re convinced hold the key to victory in 2029/30, but in doing so are absolutely razing their broader support to the ground.

He’s a fucking idiot.

A blanket ban on foreign workers in care homes is ridiculous. Something has to be done about the care sector, but frankly that is a task bigger than immigration and I can't see anyone tackling it.

There is a problem with foreign workers in care homes though. There is stuff I know that has happened that Farage would win elections off.

I don't know. When it comes to the general election I can still see people voting for Labour on the basis of "well they aren't as bad as the Tories or Reform" because there isn't a mainstream alternative to this racist bullshit.

My daughter's carer is an immigrant from Ethiopia. Other carers that have worked with her were from Jamaica and Pakistan. Her school one-to-one worker is from Brazil. Her stand-in teacher is from Africa, but I forget which country.

They're all absolutely brilliant people who have helped her hugely over the last year. If only we'd known that the 'vote for them, they'll do the right thing in power' mob were talking about being even more racist than the previous government.

What the fuck is this policy. It's obviously aimed at the lowest common denominator, but if you actually deliver on it you fuck the whole care system up (it's already in a state but will go to unrepairable levels). It will lead to people not getting the care they need because they will be so badly staffed. Even if wages in the industry went up I doubt you'd get the numbers in this country as people haven't wanted those jobs for decades. Also how would you fund those extra wages, by cutting the number of people working in the industry? Cutting the quality of care?

Care workers are important to a functional society, if you'd rather have a shitter system of public care so you can have less people with dark skin around you're a thick cunt who doesn't deserve to have air to breath and I think I'm being polite about it.

Sorry for the X link but "Island of Strangers" is the modern day "Rivers of Blood"..

That’s exactly what I thought. The one thing Starmer - or anyone else - has failed to do is explain why we need to reduce immigration outside of ‘too many foreigners’. Journalists have failed on this front too, I mean fuck, Chris Mason of the BBC wrote an entire explainer article on why Labour is looking to do this without ever explaining the ‘why’ beyond ‘it’s been a topic of political debate’. Great, but why?

I’m seriously disappointed that he and his party aren’t principled enough to have an honest conversation about immigration, and explain why it’s needed. I’m disappointed that journalists are more or less accepting the premise and making the story about the idea of reducing immigration as opposed to the rational behind it. Everyone has failed, and we’re all going to suffer because of it; particularly if it culminates in a Reform government.

The care sector and social care provision in this country is heading towards an irreversible disaster and has been for years. So this absolute tool decides to give it a helping hand over the cliff. Well done.

He's a YouGov PM. He'll just do anything based on the flavour of the week.

You can take "Heading towards" out of your opening sentence Bacon. The standard of care right now is the worst it has ever been.  There are lots of factors at play, staffing is certainly a big issue but unsurprisingly another big issue is greed. The greed of the companies that run them and I am sorry to say increasingly the greed of the parents of SEN adults and children. Not all of them obviously but it's definitely on the rise.
