69MeDon Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 Perfectly fine episode of Dynamite, made better by a crowd that was invested in everything. Much better than the Vegas crowd. You suck, Vegas! Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted June 1, 2023 Paid Members Posted June 1, 2023 “Kenny has left the country…but he’s not in Canada.” Buckets, dear reader. I spunked buckets. How did Kota’s relationship with New Japan end? Are they on better terms now? You hope Forbidden Door coming up doesn’t have a negative effect on Ibushi coming in. Quote

Once or twice on Dynamite, and on Dark and Rampage, and plenty of times on ROH. He's Rush's brother, and a classic bit of confusing Lucha Libre naming - he used to wrestle as Dragon Lee, but then the current Dragon Lee, who's also his brother, got that name, so he became Mistico, but he's not either of the other two guys who used to be called Mistico. Bit of distance since then and most of the differences have been resolved. NJPW never really lost interest. How they managed the situation caused the problem for Ibushi. Now he's a freelancer again it's more likely they'll work together at some point. This isn't a CMLL blocking AAA Mexican wrestlers from Forbidden Door type deal. Quote

It's a shame they wasted that great RUSH match before DoN, RUSH would have been a pretty perfect post PPV feud for Jungle Boy to do a babyface reset with. Putting him back with HOOK feels like a massive step backwards. Don Callis is a superb heel. Takeshita needs to grow a villainous goatee or something, he's almost too pretty to be a heel. Later down the line the story of him breaking away from Callis and turning back babyface is going to be amazing. Interesting that Callis mentioned building a new family, wonder if he's going to add more people? Though I don't think another stable is what AEW needs, hopefully he's just going to join up with the BCC. Quote
Tim Healys Chutney Spoon Posted June 1, 2023 Posted June 1, 2023 Bit left field but turn Dark Order heel and cut the comedy out and bring in a few more tough guys and could be little filler fued for Elite if needed as they've teased dissention between Page and DO recently which in turn could run onto Elite. They've had a good run in the past, so happy to see it again, but with a different dynamic. Quote

Definitely shouldn't be wasting TV time on a Dark Order/Elite feud. Quote

Yeah, Dralistico was Mistico after Mistico went to WWE to become Sin Cara, where he worked against Sin Cara, who used to be Mistico before Dralistico became Mistico. As BomberPat said, Dralistico was Dragon Lee before he became Mistico whereupon Dragon Lee became Dragon Lee. Dralistico became Mistico but now the Mistico who was Mistico before Dralistico became Mistico is Mistico. Got it? Quote

Paid Members Fatty Facesitter Posted June 2, 2023 Paid Members Posted June 2, 2023 Overall - Fantastic Dynamite! The in-ring product delivered in spades this week. Angle advancement perhaps took slightly more of a backseat in comparison, but there was certainly enough to keep you guessing about what happens next and enough intrigue for you to want to come back next week to see what’s to come. Power firmly back with Dynamite over Raw this week for tele output. ? BCC vs Lucha Bros/Bandido - Highly physical and energetic start and all six of them did the business. Lovely stuff. ? Elite/Don Callis business - Firstly, Kenny clearly heading to Japan to enlist Kota’s help, Dark Order getting the hump, it’s all good with me. Then Callis and Takeshita had INSANE heat during their promo. Callis really is such a despicable shitbag - love it. Big thumbs up for all of this. ? Adam Cole/Britt Baker vs Chris Jericho/Saraya - The men have atoned for their underwhelming PPV showing and the women delivered here too. Britt locking Jericho in the Lockjaw is a superb visual. A really good way to end the show. ? Gates of Agony vs Orange Cassidy/Darby Allin - I really enjoyed this one. Gates of Agony looked the bollocks - two big lads that can move really quickly and make their attacks look absolutely vicious. Cassidy/Allin were perfect as the underdog heroins, having to dig deep whilst not feeling 100% to hang on, using their bodies as weapons and ultimately overcoming the odds. An absolute smasher. ? Tony S: “IT’S STIIIIIIIING!!!” ? Big Bill vs Trent vs Swerve - Fun! Big Bill is on a roll at the moment. A good heater for Swerve in the short term. ? Were they subtly teasing Jungle Boy twatting Hook there with the chair? [Mark Corrigan] I see you! [/Mark Corrigan] Finally Hook is rid of the Firm bollocks. Good. ? Kris Starlandrr vs Nyla Rose - Already the most interesting TBS title defence in recent memory. Good back and forth contest. Nice to have Kris back. ? Tag title business - One of the only things on the show that didn’t grab me. the match will be great, but FTR look like mugs for getting punked out after an average heel promo from the opposition, and I’m not fussed about Starks/Switchblade and I think we’re all ready to move on because neither party is getting any value from it. Paid Members Supremo Posted June 2, 2023 Paid Members Posted June 2, 2023 (edited) Good show. One of the better post-PPV Dynamites. What a difference a hot crowd makes. They should have held the pay per view here instead. Jog on, Vegas! Brilliant, action-packed opener. This is what the Trios division should be every single week. A guaranteed banger that makes your head spin. With each passing week The House of Black feel more and more like when The Fiend was stinking up the joint as WWE Champion and someone like Goldberg needed to put everyone out of their misery. Get the belts off these spooky idiots with their crap lighting and make this division worth caring about. You know that funny story about teenagers at a house party, playing truth or dare, and someone dares someone they don’t like to go home? That’s what they should do here. The Dealer’s Choice rule next week should be “House of Black fuck off to the fed.” Sorry, lads. Rules are rules. See ya! I’ve always been a bigger fan of the Combat Club than most, but surely we’re all in agreement now that they’re fucking great in this current form? Top tier bunch of bastards. Yuta in particular is an absolute revelation as the little shit, hanging with the bigger boys, thinking he’s Billy Big Bollocks. Real heat watching him pick up another win. Can’t wait for someone to smash him up. Danielson was great at the desk too. Tremendous stuff all round. Regal leaving was the best thing to ever happen. Hangman’s promo backstage was a masterpiece. Two minute, throwaway backstage segment that suggested a million possibilities. It took a while for them to warm up and find their feet again, but now that The Elite are officially running Wednesday nights, seemingly with something to prove before Punk comes back on Saturdays, it really is amazing to see what they’re able to achieve. Peak AEW. 2020 level. This intricate, interesting, engrossing, exciting storyline that practically encompasses half the roster, with a million directions and matches you could make. How are The Elite going to bounce back against the Combat Club? Will they challenge them to Blood and Guts? How do you top an exploding super kick?! Who is Kenny bringing in? Ibushi? Okada? Will the Dark Order turn heel after being abandoned by Hangman? Who could Callis bring in? Will Don have to buy Will Ospreay’s mum a new car to recruit him? And think of the match combinations they’ve barely scratched the surface with! Danielson and Mox vs. The Young Bucks. Claudio vs. Hangman, Nick Jackson or Omega. Takeshita vs. Omega. Golden Lovers vs. Mox and Danielson. Golden Lovers vs. Silva and Reynolds. Hangman vs. Silva. Golden Lovers vs. Takeshita and Ospreay. Danielson vs. Okada! Nick Jackson vs. Ospreay. Danielson vs. Ibushi! Has Kota Ibushi ever wrestled Takeshita?! Jesus Christ, the list is endless! I think it’s time we call it. Juice Robinson has turned this whole thing around. Waste of space for what felt like months, this pairing with Jay White has suddenly clicked, he’s found his banter, and they’ve become a great act. Really funny stuff watching them hide behind Schiavone. Fair fucks to everyone involved. They’ve worked miracles here. Rickaaaaaaay! Another big pop for CM Punk. I know I'm an idiot. I can’t help it. I’m excited for Collision! May as well enjoy it whilst it lasts. I doubt it’ll last long. We should do a sweepstakes. Great random three-way exhibition. More 2020 vibes. Similar to Juice Robinson, Big Bill has slowly developed into one of my favourite parts of the show. He’s great. Anything that results in more Swerve gets a big thumbs up from me, too. He’s breaking our hearts and taking that belt next week, isn’t he? I thought The Acclaimed cut quite a sad act with their promo. I dunno. They’re still obviously super over, but the electricity isn’t there like it once was. I’m not convinced they ever should have lost the Tag Titles. Was it really worth it? So Dax could work his rubbish Twitter angle? Orange Cassidy and Darby Allin are my new favourite tag team. They should make a run for the belts. That final stretch in this match was wild. Liquid wrestling! Add Sting vs. Swerve to the list of matches I never knew I needed. Swerve giving him a snarl as he backed away was money. Phenomenal segment from Don Callis and Takeshita. Nuclear reaction! Giving Jailhouse Dom a run for his money in terms of heel heat! It’s crazy how well this has all fallen into place. For the longest time, the Takeshita teases felt like they’d likely result in a fun TV dream match between Takeshita and Kenny Omega, the type of graphic they’d release on a Friday evening for a Dynamite that wasn’t selling particularly well, or on a Wednesday for a Rampage that’s competing with Smackdown on FS1. Now though? This is big time. You could semi-main event a pay per view with it. White hot. Them going back to Jungle HOOK is interesting, and I couldn’t take my eyes off Jack Perry, convinced he was going to turn heel by hitting HOOK with the chair, but fuck me. I simply cannot handle storylines involving people complaining about TV time in 2023. There’s probably a thread to be made for tropes in pro-wrestling you never want to see again. People complaining about TV time. Wrestlers moaning about part-timers. Anyone ever going “this is the real me talking!” Stuff like that. It all belongs in the bin. Funny watching them practice booking Collision by actually booking a Rampage card worth watching. You could have done this for the past eighteen months, Tony! People may have actually watched on Friday nights! Solid main event. In retrospect, this is the match they should have had at the pay per view. Madness that nobody stepped in when they decided to cosplay Unforgiven 2008. All those great minds backstage and not a single one of them had the balls to explain that Adam Cole is not HBK and this feud isn’t anywhere near hot or personal enough to end with someone getting punched to death. Sometimes, you need to put your foot down and save guys from themselves, especially if they’re idiots. Thankfully they haven’t got any ego-driven, paranoid head cases on their way back to the company, with a whole show built around them. This type of cowardice, terrified to say no to talent, would be extremely worrying if that was the case! Even worse if they were absolute weirdoes who’d never seen a Rocky film!
