100% a streaming deal. Even IWTV are getting onto the historic promotion bandwagon buying the All Japan Women archive.

Content is king in broadcasting right now

The bigger thing is what they're going to do for new content. An hour or 2 hour show is going to shape how often they run shows and what RoH is going to look like going forward.

Does the Honor Club site not already stream the old shows? I can definitely see Tony attempting buy outs of other libraries tho, making his own huge streaming site containing them all.

It does, but we've seen from the WWE Network what the limits are. They peaked at 2m+ subscribers, at the time of the Peacock deal they were at roughly 1.5m+. That's a $180m a year globally. I think it was just in the US that they sold for a $1bn for 5 years.

There's likely more value in a deal with selling the back catalogue and offering exclusive streaming content to keep subscribers active year round. Security of a fixed rate for a number of years. No tech costs in maintaining the site.

The only library I would be interested in from a dead company would be Lucha Underground. Decent crossover with current talent. Could make an interesting doc to drive people to watching. Action figures, merch, computer game characters.

I'd be up for Tony starting his own tape trading business now where we have to write to him with a cheque for £5 requesting a copy of his 8th generation Glory By Honor 02 which might have some of the Bret Hart Shoot or Candace Michelle's soft corn porn stuck on the end.

Bit of proper nostalgia

Or a “best of wrestler X” compilation which is just every match they had on TV between October and February, win lose or draw, good match, bad or indifferent.

Joking aside, the second part of that sentence does hold some appeal to me. I'm back into wrestling after 10 years or so without watching a single thing. Something like that for the likes of Kenny Omega in New Japan or Kenny Omega in AEW is definitely something I would watch. So yeah ... at least one person would watch it.

World Tag: FTR (c) v. The Briscoes

World TV: Samoa Joe (c) v. Jay Lethal

Pure Title: Wheeler Yuta (c) v. Daniel Garcia

Looks like it might be Martinez v. Deeb for the women's title and Rampage on Friday will give an indicator on the Gresham/Moriarty/Cage dynamic that should lead to a World Title match.

Curious to see how they round out the rest of the card. Claudio was meant to originally debut on this show before Danielson got hurt. Which suggests he'll be doing double duty between the brands.

The Tag Title match between FTR and the Briscoes is now a 2/3 falls match.

Last night on Rampage the World Title match was confirmed. Since there was some complaints about spoiling a NJPW show on the Forbidden Door thread.

Spoiler

Gresham v. Claudio

HonorClub is suspending new subscribers. A $10 per month compensation offer on ProWrestlingTees/ShopHonor is being offered. The service is set for a relaunch some time in the fall. Only known change is that new content is on a 60 day delay.

Aside from Gresham (although he’s had 2 matches on Rampage now) and The Briscoes, it’s all looking a bit like AEW Overflow. Almost like they’ve got all this stuff they want to do with this guys on AEW but haven’t got the TV time right now, or they’re already tied up in other things

I know they’ve used a few ROH guys more on Dark & Elevation, but those shows are pretty inconsequential. I know it’s still early days, but it feels like Khan just bought it just to acquire a couple of name talents. He’s done virtually nothing with the tape library

I mean he’s not owned the company 6 months yet, what the hell are you expecting someone to do in that time? How long did it take WWE to do anything with the WCW tape library? Other then using clips in DVD documentaries?

Samoa Joe returned on RoH, Claudio was due to debut on this show, Jay Lethal only signed with AEW because RoH were cutting people to streamline/sell. With no weekly place to put them you could argue they are RoH overflow.

RoH were going to reinvent themselves as more in line with GCW. FTR probably would have made more than the Final Battle 2021 appearance if it hadn't been for the sale. Becoming a super indy of old was the way they were going, its just happening now with a billionaire backing it.

It's not like RoH had the full library up previously. Rights issues, poor production quality kept things off HonorClub. If they weren't willing to stump up the money for Final Countdown in AEW, it's not like they'd start now for archival footage
