I love Bret, but he absolutely loves himself and all his great stuff is with the WWE. Clearly he wants some degree of control over that.

The biggest Bret Hart fan is Bret Hart. No wonder he enjoyed screwing himself.   If he can rinse a large wedge of dosh from that mad old cunt then fair play to him and I hope he makes a shedload.

I am really curious what amount of money Vince was able to offer Bret that made Tony go "nah, too expensive".

Vince probably offered a twenty year deal.

He wasn't going to be a full time manager anyway was he? I doubt he wants the hassle at this stage of his life.

Probably better off with a sizeable legends deal. Certainly worth more than a couple of one off appearances on AEW.

To be fair, other than a connection to the Owen Hart tournament and managing FTR as a one-off, he's not that valuable to AEW - at least not to the point where you'd be giving him significantly more than a Tully, Arn or Jake. Bringing in Bret would have made Punk and FTR happy and otherwise meant relatively little.

A regular payday is one thing. What argument is there in giving him serious money? They already had him unveiling the AEW championship with Jack Whitehall and that's basically a trivia point.

Whatever the reasoning behind it is, Tony seems to separate out 'nice' and 'business' for the most part - just look at the Cody situation. He doesn't seem to be seriously willing to outbid WWE on many people (if anyone), and I can't imagine those on the lower tiers are on massive paychecks. Whereas WWE are willing to dig deeper, and I'd bet Bret as a contributor to documentaries, etc, is part of that.

While it was pretty shocking at the time, the Cody departure becomes less surprising the more you think about it. Cody and Brandi's presence on AEW TV had become fairly toxic. In addition, they'd signed a whole range of big names making him less important to the company, he hadn't produced compelling television for some time, he'd been unwilling to turn heel - something that would have been a huge deal for AEW and he had also boxed himself in by being unable to challenge for the World Title.

All of the above presumably made him less of a "must keep" for Khan. If he had decided to go ahead with the heel turn, he'd have surely become a hot commodity and increased his value to the company. Cody became dispensable.

It will be really interesting when MJF becomes available - I don't think there's anyone more important to their weekly product right now than him. I can't imagine Tony would want to let him go.

I think MJF's next move will depend on how well Cody is faring in WWE when contract season rolls around.

I would have liked to have seen Bret come in for a segment with FTR, basically to say, "you guys are good enough, you don't need me". That way they get the rub from Bret, he doesn't need to go on the road, FTR have grown as characters, and AEW don't have to navigate the dead zone that is babyface managers.

It would be nice to see Bret treated as a bonafide legend, but at this point AEW get more value out of the relationship with Martha than with Bret.

And if he's genuinely convinced Vince McMahon to pay him to sit at home, long after he put to rest any aspirations of getting back in the ring? Bret's won.

Danhausen vs. HOOK getting the, “My Way,” treatment. Brilliant.

I love that I’ve never seen Danhausen wrestle. It’s perfect to go into this blind. I’m hoping he starts busting out high spots to a thunderous reaction, Orange Cassidy vs. PAC-style.

Either way though, anyone still not on board with this needs their crisps stamped on. It’s great!

How long before Jericho has to push his way into something with either or both guys?

I can see it now. HOOKhausen first destroying 2.0. Danhausen in a singles with Hager where he curses him but HOOK's right behind and starts suplexing him all over the place. Leading to HOOKhausen v. Jericho & Garcia. With lots of Jericho promos and comms in between.
