Oh, absolutely. It’s certainly more interesting than anything he’s done thus far. It feels like his career up until this point has been an experiment in what The Rock would have been like if he just remained as Rocky Maivia, being absolutely rubbish and dining out solely on who your family is. The problem is that I don’t think Pillman Junior has anything else. All he ever had was the name and the lineage, so it made sense to me that you’d at least capitalise on that in the company that owned all the footage. Without it? You might as well not bother. Extra weird for him to supposedly be taking the name of his step-dad, who on Dark Side of the Ring we learnt used to abuse Brian, to the point of training his dog to attack him. What a mad choice. However, having seen the vignette I like it. It's different. A second generation star who is in the business to spite his father and has changed his name because he wants nothing to do with him. I enjoyed the Pub Brawl a lot, considering Gallus have always been low-rent and were dressed in civvies it was actually good. Ridge Holland had an unfortunate start to both his NXT and main roster careers, but looks like a hoss nowadays. Unfortunate pornstar name but Lola Vice looks like a good prospect. The NXT/WWE women's divisions are stacked. Not really sure why Breaker is still down there taking pins as he's obviously more than ready for prime time. The full beard looks a bit rubbish. Time for a repackage as Bron Steiner and the proper goatee, and a big intro on Raw. I'm probably the only Biker Taker fan on here, so it was fun for me to see him (no Rollin' Rollin' music though). If Taker's bored of retirement he would make a pretty terrifying manager. WWE being able to feature Cody Rhodes and Jade Cargill just emphasises their position relative to AEW. Look, we've got old stars, big stars and future stars - and this is just NXT! This is a brilliant summary of what this show was - and it's actually something AEW did pretty well back in 2021. But heck, this was fun. I could absolutely see someone watching this for the big names, and sticking around for the stars of tomorrow. I also genuinely think Ilja Dragunov is one of the best wrestlers in the world right now. He's absolutely phenomenal. There were a few green wrestlers on the card, but there are a lot of reasons to feel optimistic about the future if you're WWE; there's so much talent in their developmental system right now - both male and female. I was pretty impressed with the Brian Pillman Jr promo. In AEW, he had a terrible look and was very underwhelming on the mic. His look here was elevated significantly, and the promo was strong - perhaps all he needed was a bit of scripting. Hopefully the WWE developmental system can help make him more than he was. I'd really like to see WWE sign Sonny Kiss for the same reason. Perhaps Sonny needed seasoning, and perhaps WWE can provide it. You know, when they dropped “Submission Sorority” for Paige/Charlotte/Becky for exactly that reason I assumed someone was keeping abreast of this kind of potential faux pas. But then, to avoid confusion between Lacey Lane (her actual given name, near enough) with Lacey Evans (not her given name), as if “Lacey Lane” didn’t sound gangbangy enough, they changed her ring name to Kayden Carter. Is this because its shown on BT Sports first? Not tuned in for a while so know the Raw & Smackdown were delayed by a few weeks but always thought NXT was on there straight away?
