Paid Members Supremo Posted December 10, 2025 Paid Members Posted December 10, 2025 (edited) Of all the AEW talent they’ve poached in recent years, the last one I expected was, “The Devil. “ And yet here we are. The exact same WWE2K bollocks, where a, “masked man attacks~!” Looks like they’re using a different bloke under the mask each week. If I was to guess, it was Austin Theory at Survivor Series and then Montez Ford here. Montez being revealed in the end would be so much better than Austin Theory, since he’s the most underutilised guy on the roster, but I’m more convinced than ever it’ll end up being Chris Jericho. This fills the time until his AEW contract runs out, he bloody loves an unmasking angle, and Hunter can get a snide humiliating chuckle out of using the most agile guys, with the best physiques out there, only for it to be Old Man Jericho as the final reveal. Finally something for Rey Fenix to do! Chuck the balaclava on him, have him do some crazy high spots, then eventually reveal it was definitely Chris Jericho all along. Essentially, this. I think I’ve told before how I used to roll my eyes when doing my sad little fic-fed with my best mate, he loved to pull out “The champ gets attacked by two men in masks!! We don’t know who it is!!” and tell him how over it as a plot device I was. That was 25 years ago. Quote
Paid Members Callum1993 Posted December 11, 2025 Paid Members Posted December 11, 2025 They’ve used the run-in with a mask/hoody far too much in the last couple of years. They’ve done it with Solo, Both Usos and I’m sure they debuted a couple of Solo’s group in the same way. Also did it when R-Truth returned earlier in the year and probably loads of others I’m forgetting. Quote

True, but it did give us the incredible moment where Drew McIntyre tried it and Joe Tessitore just went "that's clearly Drew McIntyre in a hoodie." Quote
Paid Members DCW Posted December 12, 2025 Paid Members Posted December 12, 2025 Was it Tori who was the sexy masked run in attacker in 2000 or 2001? but she was released before it was revealed as being her? Quote
Paid Members Statto Posted December 12, 2025 Paid Members Posted December 12, 2025 My favourite of that particular trope was Randy Orton making sure to disguise himself in a hoodie so he could sneak unnoticed through an otherwise entirely empty room to attack Edge from behind at CovidMania. Quote

First was Becky leading to the mixed tag and then at Survivor Series Quote

Yes and no. Yes it was Tori in 2001 but no, she was unmasked before she was let go ; https://youtu.be/oHktraA8Onk Quote
BarryOVega Posted December 16, 2025 Posted December 16, 2025 Can’t wait for Adam Pearce to turn up at the open top bus parade for whoever wins the Premier League to call them all wankers for celebrating Gunther beat the bloke they’ve spent all year explicitly saying is the greatest of all time, beat him clean and made him tap out then the audience is supposed to boo him out the building for doing so, a lot of it sounded suspiciously piped in too Punk promo aside, shite episode Quote
The King of Old School Posted December 16, 2025 Author Posted December 16, 2025 The reveal for Austin Theory went exactly as i expected it to. How can you expect anyone to give a shit about that reveal?! Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted December 16, 2025 Paid Members Posted December 16, 2025 I know this is complaining about something that has been a trope in wrestling forever, but was there any attempt to explain why Austin Theory has been under a mask? How has it furthered his or The Vision's goals to disguise his identity until now, and what's changed to make revealing his identity the right move now? Quote

While I'm not hopeful, I suppose it's only fair to give them til next week and the inevitable promo to explain his joining the Vision before berating them for not explaining the why. Again, I don't have high hopes it'll be a satisfactory reasoning. Quote
Paid Members Supremo Posted December 16, 2025 Paid Members Posted December 16, 2025 To be Triple H during that post-show on Saturday, booed relentlessly, with fans chanting, “you fucked up!” and, “AEW!” You’ll show them. Yes. This is the time to reveal your mystery man…as Austin Theory. Quote
