AnotherCrapUsername Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Punk looking old and knackered is probably due to the fact he's worked more in the last few weeks than he has in years. He looked the same towards the end of the European tour if memory serves me correct. I do agree though, his last great match will probably be the Hell in a Cell with Drew. Quote

He's not at a Terry Taylor level, but it's why he's survived. He'd tell you so himself if you had an hour spare after he tells you repeatedly that he's not a hard man. Based on what? I have no feelings one way or another on him, but as far as I can see he’s pals with Triple H and seems to like working for WWE. AEW wasn’t going to kick him to the curb, and I can’t imagine he stood to make a significantly different wage by moving back. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with having a preference as to where you work, we surely all do to some degree. 17 minutes ago, AnotherCrapUsername said: Punk looking old and knackered is probably due to the fact he's worked more in the last few weeks than he has in years. I think he’s got other great matches in him, but the opponent has to be the right one. I suspect he and Cody Rhodes could have a very strong match, and Sheamus could probably carry him to an excellent, Eddie Kingston-style match. He’s not what he was, but he’s still has it in him to be enjoyable. If he really does go up against Jericho, I could see that being a bit of a disaster though. They didn’t have much chemistry when both men were at peak ability, god knows what it would be like to see them wrestle now. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted January 6 Paid Members Posted January 6 I'd be interested in seeing Punk/Jericho from a car-crash perspective. Their last WWE feud was absolute dogshit I thought. 'I was swimming with sharks while you were dancing with the stars' was a good line though, Punk always has a decent one-liner up his sleeve. Quote
Paid Members Callum1993 Posted January 6 Paid Members Posted January 6 If Jericho is just coming in for a short retirement run then I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s him and Gunther for Mania with Gunther retiring him too. Not sure where that leaves Punk though as Roman/Cody seems likely for the other belt. Quote

Chili Posted January 6 Posted January 6 @RedTwostersorry I was out. Regal is a stooge, I don't mind where he works either, but he got his AEW release in a crafty manner, a classic carny bit of work. Like I said, I really enjoy him as a wrestler and spinning a decent yarn. But he's an office stooge. That's just my view on him. He could be worse and be a massive racist with a prior lawsuit against him but working in a top position training talent, or he could have been a cunt who h-bombed women with his stupid mate back in the day, but found the lord so it's all good. At least he's not that. Quote

I’m probably unaware of something here, but certainly my impression is that he asked for his release to go back to WWE, was open about why, agreed not to appear on screen for a period of time and adhered to that. Given that Tony Khan has held on to people like Rusev, Black, Danhausen and Fenix among others rather than use them, I wouldn’t blame anyone for trying to get out of their deal in a sneaky way, but it genuinely doesn’t seem to me that this happened here. He seems to have gone about it in the right way, given that Tony Khan respected his wishes. Unlike others, he doesn’t seem to have thrown a tantrum about wanting to go, leaving in a relatively respectful way. But even if he hadn’t, if you’re unhappy in your job my view is that you’re perfectly entitled to leave it. Doesn’t make you a ‘carny’. Quote
Chili Posted January 6 Posted January 6 (edited) If only Britt Baker (or anyone unhappy) called Khan when his mam was in hospital after a stroke and gave some bullshit reason about why they wanted to leave l, maybe they'd have been luckier. I'm also aware that it veers into 'boohoo for a billionaire', but yeah, Khan got worked by an old pro. Anyway, I think he's an old carny because he is and anyone constantly saying 'now, I'm not a grass' is a big fucking grass. He's not dissimilar to Heyman, except Heyman is a genuine conman, Regal is a stooge, but they've both got decent TV bodies of work so the free passes and clouded judgements are easier than for others. Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted January 6 Paid Members Posted January 6 @Chili beat me to it, and thankfully better than I could. There’s also a belief Regal told him all about the inner workings and it’s not a great surprise that a coach at the PC is telling wrestlers not to go to AEW for more money. Also you know he was still working at the WWE PC whilst under AEW contract right? Quote

Apparently asking for your release, being open about the reason why you want your release and being granted your release makes you a "carny" in some people's eyes. Also, it seems that wanting to spend more time with your son is a "bullshit reason" for requesting your release. 2026 is going to be fun, isn't it? Quote

How on earth was working one or two days a week keeping him away from his adult son that he'd already had prior working a full time schedule, before he went to the performance center. He's not Bret Hart and the rest flying all over the country in the mid 80's and legit seeing their young families a few days per month. Also his current job on the road in WWE keeps him away for an equal amount of time if his lad isn't at TV and just doing whatever the fuck in NXT. Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted January 6 Paid Members Posted January 6 They're all carnies. What a pointless disagreement. Quote
Paid Members gmoney Posted January 6 Paid Members Posted January 6 Yeah what a fucking weird thing to get wound up about. "He lied to his boss!!! Wah!!" Quote
Chili Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Nobodies getting wound up, we're having a discussion on a wrestling forum. They're all carnies in some variant, we know. It's all completely pointless. Quote
