Loki Posted March 29 Share Posted March 29 It turns out that a decade plus of sitting on (and acting on) movie sets, watching directors, cinematographers, lighting specialists, acting a wide variety of scripts, working with top notch actors, might have rubbed off on Rocky. On the other, with his star already cracking, stood next to The Rock looking imperious - all muscles and shades and Gucci vests - he's going to look even more like an old man who's pissed himself on Christmas day and had to get changed into his son's house clothes. They first tried to steal Cody's Wrestlemania moment by taking him out of his main event with Roman for the most prestigious belt in wrestling. They've ended up stealing his moment by taking the most prestigious belt in wrestling out of his main event against Roman. The most prestigious belt in wrestling this weekend will be whatever weightlifting belt The Rock decides to bring to Philadelphia with him. Cody should insist on main eventing Night 2 against The Rock in a Mama Rhodes on a Pole match for the Weighlifting World Championship. I'm not even a huge Rock fan, still, but his pure heel work the last few weeks has at least put something on Mania where I want to see it. But the sacrifice of Roman to make it happen has been wild. I suspect he's partially at fault for letting it happen with his sort of laconic personality, casual look and patchy TV schedule, but jeeeez. Even though it’s the same Mania, it will break the record? Clutching at anything to make Roman sound the all timer he isn’t, really. Probably not worth my time analysing the record keeping of a company that celebrates the “25th Anniversary” of something that happened 24 years previously. But to be fair, it sounds like the “8” for Hogan includes going on last impromptu at Mania IX where I think you’ll find just like VIII it was promoted as a double main event… so, Hogan & Beefpiece vs Money Inc was a main event, so that’s 9. And to be fair, if Roman’s claiming two main events because he’s going to go on last in the first half and then ACTUALLY on last of the same Mania… I think you’ll find Hulk Hogan was the main event of the first tape of Mania IV, meaning our Terry managed 10 main events across the first 9 Manias. RedRooster Posted April 2 Share Posted April 2 Another brilliant Raw, once again - I really hope they can keep up this kind of storytelling after 'Mania. They may not have Rock or Roman as much; but they still have a really nice roster to hand. The main issue that they face is that they are losing out on almost every exciting free agent to AEW, so they're going to have to rely on their developmental system more than ever to keep things feeling fresh and interesting. I really hope Rock sticks around in some form post-Wrestlemania. The prospect of Rock/Cody and Rock/Reigns singles matches in the coming year is really exciting. 'The Final Boss' is a brilliant gimmick; but to work, at some point, someone has to take him out. I don't think it'll be Cody and Seth at Wrestlemania night one, but I don't think they should - Bloodline Rules on night 2 gives them scope for a wonderfully overbooked match, with interference galore. I want to see cameos from names from the past, and all sorts of nonsense - much as we did during Triple H/Sting a few years ago; all building up to that glorious moment where Cody Rhodes pins Roman to become champion. I hope they've worked out some sort of deal with AEW, to allow Dustin to make an appearance, even if it's only to celebrate with Cody's extended family in-ring after the match. While I understand that Rock would want to main event, it's disappointing that Rhea/Becky - arguably the biggest Women's match they can offer right now - isn't getting the opportunity to close a show. Then again, you could also argue that Gunther deserves to main event if he's losing his title; and that Drew McIntyre is hot enough an act to merit a show closing spot - it's a testament to how good the build-up has been. While there's filler on the card, there are loads of matches that I'm really looking forward to. Wrestlemania weekend can't come soon enough. Personally, as soon as they announce the two halves of THE main event are meeting opposite each other in an all star tag on Night 1, it's automatically the main event, even before you add in the fact that THE ROCK is one of the partners. Total no brainer. But everyone's got an opinion, especially regarding the strength of Ripley vs Becky. I saw a positively nuts Twitter poll last Tuesday asking if Liv Morgan should be added to it... because the build ABSOLUTELY justifies adding a third wrestler out of the cold with one week left. Then I got some bollocks from a random nutcase suggesting Becky is nowhere near as over as she used to be, and that Ripley vs Lynch is not as big a deal as Becky vs Belair and Charlotte vs Ripley in previous years. That's after the year in which Becky worked the Trish teaming then feuding, and Mami made the second belt truly mean something and went on last at Elimination Chamber. I mean.... The Gaffer Posted April 2 Share Posted April 2 Can't say I feel the Reigns in the shade thing as much as some others. He got a massive pop last night. He's never going to be able to match Rock on the mic but he doesn't need to. His neverending purple patch has come courtesy of being protected by a faction, having Heyman speak on his behalf, and just holding onto the belt a long ass time. So long as all those are in place, Roman's the business. He's the weird kind of star where WWE kayfabing that he's the greatest ever sort of works even if you don't fully believe it, because it's just a part of his character now. I still maintain that on the night all that matters is Cody beating Roman for the WWE title. Not beating Rock. Not for Rock's weightlifting belt. On the night the moment's going to be Cody lifting the title because he's beat the guy that's had the title for ages. Then yeah, you go on and do Rock/Cody. It's totally fine having another massive match lined up that you can't do yet because you have to do this other massive match first. Perks of being hot.
