Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted November 30, 2024 Moderators Posted November 30, 2024 Saw Moana 2 this morning. I had very low expectations and was pleasantly surprised it wasn't a total waste of time. Songs are not memorable except for one, it's a bit uninspired and overly reliant on references to the first film but it was fine. Kids laughed a lot, got a little scared and enjoyed themselves. Quote
Mr_Danger Posted November 30, 2024 Posted November 30, 2024 Just back from seeing it with the kids myself. Quality wise it’s on par with the first one but with shitter songs. Pretty much like Frozen 2. Had a few decent laughs and it kept me out of the Wicked screening so far. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted December 1, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 1, 2024 (edited) I haven't watched it yet but today in CEX I bought a factory sealed copy of The Adventures of Pluto Nash for £1. Edited December 1, 2024 by FLips Quote

Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted December 1, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 1, 2024 Moana 2 is more Monsters University than Cars 2. Thought the first 2/3 were a chore and didn’t like any of the new characters. But the last 20 minutes or so were decent. The new songs were rough, especially the new one for Maui. In fact the only song I thought was good was not in English. Hope they get a 3rd outing done properly from the start. Quote
Mr_Danger Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 I played the songs back and the kids love the Maui one, which is pushing Shatner for the title of worse talk singer. My 7 year old informs me that even though he says “Can I get a chee hoo” it’s actually meant to sound like he’s going to say “Can I get a hoooyah” which he has been told never to say again. Quote
SaitoRyo Posted December 2, 2024 Posted December 2, 2024 Men in Black 3 This was fun! I rewatched the first two MIB films relatively relatively recently and felt this one captured the same spirit. I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't overly reliant on CGI, given when it was made. Josh Brolin as a young Tommy Lee Jones was great casting, too. The Game Hadn't seen this for many, many years. It's engrossing, unbelievable nonsense. I really like Michael Douglas and he was very good as the uptight rich guy who is gradually losing his mind. The plot is silly and the payoff is more than far-fetched, but I did enjoy it as it's well directed by Fincher and the supporting lot did their part as well. Quote
Paid Members Onyx2 Posted December 3, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) It's on iplayer so for the first time I watched Cape Fear (1991). Fucking hell how good is it? I complained ?? there somewhere that Shyamalan's Trap would be much better laid out as a 90s style thriller. And THIS is what I was talking about. High stakes, limitless tension, POS bad guy, goodie is helpless, nice punch up at the end. What a cast. All the leads are on fire - Jessica Lange is a particular highlight - but look at the supporting cast: Robert Mitchum, Gregory Peck, Joe Don Baker... All doing their shtick. Lots of interesting shots, mostly in tribute to older thrillers, and an antagonist so fascinating you miss him when he's not on screen. You can see why he influenced several wrestling characters. If you're a dolt like me and haven't seen it correct this. Triffic. Edited December 3, 2024 by Onyx2 Quote
Abe_Knuckleball_Schwartz Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 Cape Fear remake is one of my favourite Robert DeNiro films, he is so menacing in this. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted December 3, 2024 Paid Members Posted December 3, 2024 I feel I would be failing in my film snob duty in pointing out the original is even better! But the remake is great, too. Quote
wordsfromlee Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 The Simpsons version is the best one. Quote
WyattSheepMask Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 (edited) I’ve never seen the original. Seen the 1991 version a couple of times, but never felt the need to track the original down Edited December 3, 2024 by WyattSheepMask Quote

It will of course be shit because for some reason it's 10 episodes... Quote
Mr_Danger Posted December 3, 2024 Posted December 3, 2024 It might be shit but Javier Bardem as Max Cady is pretty great casting. Quote

It's brilliant casting, but we'll have the inevitable flashback to the original crime, an episode on his abusive dad, an episode on the husband and wife getting together... Quote
