The Holdovers

Well obviously I bloody loved it.

Right to the top of the Payne list with Sideways.

You really did wait nearly a year to watch it!

I am nothing if not stubborn. Glad I did though. Fire on, cat on lap, big bag of Malteasers. Really added to the vibes.

Conclave (cinema)

Seems to be upsetting all the right people, which is a bonus, but it's a good old-fashioned conspiracy thriller with a great cast and an all-timer ending. Also unexpectedly features two of the biggest laughs of the year. Edward Berger's going far.

I watched this a few nights ago and it's brilliant, I was surprised at just how funny it is and at it's core feels like an expertly crafted farce. But yeah that ending was genuinely beautiful.

Spoiler

Funniest vape hit in cinema history.

i watched The Last Seduction last night, a 90s erotic thriller. Great film, with a bit of a crazy ending. Linda Fiorentino's performance was utterly fantastic as the femme fatale, am surprised she didn't get nominated for any awards for it, i thought it was that good. Also, why on earth did she not go on to have a big career off the back of this ? baffling

Because she got labelled 'difficult' on a couple of her films (Men in Black most notably) and was blackballed. A few years later she retired from acting altogether.

Yup, pretty much this. Kevin Smith was also very vocal about how 'difficult' she was while making Dogma. Hasn't been in anything for fifteen years now and, last I heard, may have been involved in real estate (or at least flipped a house she'd bought for a healthy profit).

I'd heard good things about this before, and since it's technically a Christmas movie, it seemed a good time to check it out. It's a Hammer thriller, and while it's fairly old-fashioned and feels TV-like in places, it's still a great time and only 80 minutes long. Peter Cushing is your uptight, unpleasant bank manager, who gets threatened by a suave Andre Morrell into a robbery. With great support from Richard Vernon as well (who you'll recognise from all kinds of things, including Yes, Prime Minister). Just a really good, old-fashioned time.
