Yeah he was one of those post Brock Turner incidents where the NCAA essentially turned a blind eye to athletes  assaulting and raping women. Unsurprisingly legislators were so slow to act, probably because it’s only women and we don’t want to ruin these promising athletes lives for one little mistake. Wankers one and all.

Oh wow, this sounds terrible. I will have to look it up. Never knew that.

Yeah. He would've probably gone to the Olympics again if they'd released him a little earlier. So at least some good has come out of him maintaining a few more weeks' employment.

I talked about this on Twitter, but I find it genuinely jaw-dropping still.

2024, and these pricks are still bragging about covering Sunny in bodily fluids and fuck knows what else.

Bear in mind, this is the supposed locker-room leader and conscience of the company. And, in a job that's entirely about giving yourself over to, and trusting, the people you're in the ring with, just an absolute betrayal of all of that. And all because they didn't like her.

And it gives another reason to look at just how this was endemic to the company that this ended up on the cover of the magazine the following month. Because you know that was done to pop the boys and to tell them 'well done'.

Just an utterly horrible company on every level.

I remember seeing that magazine in the shops at the time and thinking it was very odd to have that on the cover. I suppose it was 1996 WWF (lean times) but even so. “Popping the boys” would make sense. Wasn’t Russo in charge of the magazine back then?

Must be the week for it, because here's Henry Godwinn talking about it as well.

I believe Sytch has spoken about how this was shortly after she broke up with Michaels in favour of patching things back up with Candido, so this (and them putting shit in her food in Germany) was basically 'retribution' for that.

Wonderful locker room, eh?

That photo on the front cover of the magazine is amazing to be fair, but immediately becomes very distressing when you hear that story posted above. Bunch of cunts

Yes, he was. In a way its a perplexing cover and an indictment of the product at the time, thinking "Umm, isn't there literally ANYTHING going on more newsworthy than this? Shawn is WWF Champion, this new Mankind character is giving Taker real problems... nothing?" But when you think about some of the stories Russo told or wanted to tell throughout his tenure writing TV both there and in the WCW, which have you scratching your head thinking "And this is supposed to make me part with my money to watch a wrestling match because... how, exactly?" It fits.

Whilst I won't make excuses for Sunny and her actions , there is no doubt in my mind she became such a mess because of the way she was treated by the business; it chewed her up and spat her out whilst all the boys laughed and cheered. When you see HHH as the boss and people like Taker treated like Gods it's hard to truly see how that culture will ever change, I get the feeling in about 10 years we will be hearing lots of stories about what was really going on during the 'women's revolution' (Ronda tbf has already hinted it was all BS)

You forget (kinda) how vile some of our heroes are.

Semi related, but I always find it weird when someone does something mildly heelish on WWE tv, and Triple H or Shawn Michaels "have a meeting with them" / "suspend them" / etc. Their characters come across as the biggest hypocrites in the world.

I'm waiting for the day a babyface tells Triple H or Shawn Michaels to fuck off and remind him of when one orchestrated vehicular homicide just to get an advantage in a Triple Threat match, and the other disrespected a championship by lying down in the title match.

Sorry... going off topic. But honestly, having Shawn Michaels and Triple H presented as wholesome and upstanding individuals will always rub me the wrong way.

100% agree. Triple H was clearly always 'one of the boys',a 30 year old high school jock.

Agreed.

Tammy is ultimately responsible for what she ended up doing but you have to think being around the business, especially at that time, as a teenager AND a woman (I think we forget just how few women there were in the business then, especially in WWF) must really have messed her up.

Getting your food shit in, getting bodily fluids dumped on your head (and these are just the things we know about) would mess anybody up. Can you imagine that happening in any other job and being accepted?

Missy Hyatt wrote in her book that she was in the shower and one of the Freebirds climbed on top of the shower stall and pissed on her - and that was a sign they liked you!

It's a fucked up business that we all shouldn't be supporting yet we love it and can't ever truly let it go despite all its glaringly obvious faults.

It's the bad partner that has a history but you think will change because they're with you.

Roddy Piper had the best response to that when Michael Hayes came into the shower area where he was and asked "Have you ever been pissed on in the showers by a guy before?":

"Not by anyone who's alive. Now what do you wanna do, asshole?"
