Covid-19 Megathread

I think if there is another lockdown I can see a lot of people not conforming. It is just a quick fix to get the numbers down for  a few weeks.

After lockdown, numbers will rise again and you could argue that it will put a greater strain on the NHS as you will be coming into a period when generally more people become unwell and require hospital treatment so the 1 December date  (rumoured date of the end of lockdown) will probably be extended if the numbers are not what the Government want them to be.

Until there is a vaccine we cannot just  be expected to go through this process every few months can we?

The effect of a lockdown and the impact it will have on people's mental health and local businesses etc. really needs to taken into consideration as well.

Another thing I have noticed is that the press 'leak' potential lockdown or tougher measures on a Friday probably just so it causes panic and people to go supermarkets and bulk buy everything.

Talks of a full lockdown from next weekend.its needed but I honestly think it will harm people so much especially those like me who use going out walking as a coping mechanism for MH conditions.

You could go out walking last time during full lockdown, I was out twice a day with dogs.

No one is going to riot.

Current suggestions are that if another national lockdown is called, schools and universities will stay open. My wife is still off work and still crying quite a bit about the thought of having to go back, so I’m interested to see what the take is for vulnerable people who were told to shield last time.

I feel for you Scratch. The schools thing is mind blowing without some sort of staggering or switching out year groups to online.

I'm so torn because socialising is so important for young children (for everyone, but more so for them) but allowing hundreds of children who completely forget social distancing to mill about and then go repeatedly back home is madness.

The thing that gets me is that it’s being written as “PM considering second lockdown next week”, as if he still needs to be convinced about it. I recently watched the full run of The Thick of It on Netflix, and am actually quite concerned how accurate it is, we’re being run by a bunch of utter gobshites.

And what’s happens if it’s only till the start of December, what’s the message going to then? “Everything’s fine now everyone, get down the shops to do your Christmas shopping”.

The January comes, “So, you know how we tend to overdo things at Christmas? Well...”

Very kind offer Ralphy but make sure to look after yourself too.

I'm already quarantined. The guy I sit next to at work tested positive on Wednesday and work policy is I have to stay home for 2 weeks even if I get a test and my result is negative. I'm not too concerned about another lockdown for a month or so but more concerned that the government haven't really got any plan to deal with this long term. Basically the main reason to have a lockdown is to stop the NHS being overwhelmed so why the fuck didn't they spend all summer getting ready for this exact scenario?

Certainly looks like it'll go that way where we stay open throughout all of this, the government are insistent that schools will only close as an absolute final measure. A rota system was proposed by the government a whole back when they set out guidance for education, that would see kids do a week in and then a week home learning.

Personally, if we do have a "lockdown" next month, I would be giving parents the choice for whether they want to pull kids out for this month and be doing home learning. Whether many would opt for that is anyone's guess, but it would at least give the option as long as they are able to still be learning effectively at home. We've been uploading all lessons this year for pupils who are isolating so it wouldn't be too difficult, maybe switch it so they call into lessons on MS Teams instead.

If the weather's like it is now, no cunt's going to want to be outside anyway, even for a riot.

I REALLY want to riot in the rain now.

To be honest, if they are going for the same sort of rules as last time, i.e you can exercise once a day etc, then it will be rough for a lot of people.

I didn't mind walking round the park for an hour at 7pm with the kids for our 'daily exercise' in April as there was no one about, and it was warm. Can't exactly do that in November can you? Not good going for those with social anxieties at the best of time.

This is gonna be shit. Let's all look after each other eh? x

I personally think it'll be fine. The weather's shit, we have Netflix, zoom and we can all get together and have a shant on Skype while having a bevvy, its not ideal, but its not an ideal world. And maybe if people stopped moaning about how shit lockdown is, we can make a special time out of this.
