Merzbow
No wonder Chris Morris isn't seen making TV over here any more, he can't compete with real life cunts.

Paid Members Nexus Posted January 16, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted January 16, 2023 It's literally about giving trans people a crumb of dignity in their lives and they're willing to the fuck the union over it. Just evil.

Guest
Tories claim the only reason they're vetoing the bill is that it creates inconsistency between Scottish services and those in the rest of the UK. Well that's a two-way street, isn't it? Maybe, just maybe, it's not Scotland charging too far ahead but the other nations lagging too far behind. Another way to attempt to resolve that inconsistency would be to check whether, in 2023, the other nations are ready to catch up with Scotland and enact similar bills of their own. But no, that wouldn't give anyone the satisfaction of treading on trans people at the first opportunity.
Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 16, 2023 Paid Members Share Posted January 16, 2023 There's already inconsistency between Scotland and the rest of the UK anyway, surely? It's had its own legislature and frameworks for centuries, some of which differentiates from that of England & Wales.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted January 16, 2023 Moderators Share Posted January 16, 2023 It's not about inconsistency, the test is whether it will have an 'adverse effect' on UK-wide law. Not close to this but I'm yet to see a convincing argument to support this if there is one. The articles I've seen on this are too readily conflating criticism of the bill by uk ministers and Scottish Tories (which are irrelevant, because it's a devolved issue that's been approved by Scottish parliament) and whether or not the bill as its written meets this (admittedly very vague) test and if so how. Keith Houchen
At least the opposition in Westminster will stand up against the government’s totalitarian action. Oh.

It's had its own legislature and frameworks for centuries, some of which differentiates from that of England & Wales. It lost that between 1707 and 1999, but kept its own judicial system and less hierarchical established Church, and managed to set up a different education system in the middle of that period even without a Parliament. But devolution isn't proper decentralisation anyway. Power devolved is power retained. But the media has successfully made voters in this country have an instant negative reaction to the word 'federal' despite federalism apparently being good enough for Canada, Brazil, Australia etc. Worst of all, the issue on which the Tories have chosen to break the 24-year settlement isn't even a unionist vs independence one. They've struck down a law which was agreed upon by the SNP, Labour, Greens and Lib Dems – and which the Conservatives would've backed 6 years ago too under Davidson, before they tactically decided trans people were to be the target of choice for fearmongering, bigotry and hatred in the latest round of culture wars, in order to convince enough people to carry on voting against their own interests. This won't end well.
