Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted August 23, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted August 23, 2018 Actually, I remember wrongly, it was on Mauldeth Road West near what I think is now an Indian restaurant.
Keith Houchen
You don't know where they are, you don't know what should be on the menu. You've cashed in your chips.
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted August 23, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted August 23, 2018 I haven't been down there for 15 years since they closed down Pound Spot, forgive me.

Paid Members air_raid Posted August 23, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted August 23, 2018 Two of them (Hoddesdon) won't be too far from Broxbourne Civic Hall so I'd imagine Benny or gadge may have experienced one already!

Ah now we're talking! Captains is easily the best chippy in the blessed town I grew up in. Chips are cooked to perfection, battered sausages are ace. They've been winning awards for years now and deservedly so. They've opened a second chippy in Hoddesdon now (might actually be Sidney's, because that place doesn't sound familiar), on the same road where my sister lives. MungoChutney
In @Keith Houchen's photo Irish curry sauce and English curry sauce are both listed. What's the difference? Never heard of that.
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted August 23, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted August 23, 2018 (edited) The only problem is @air_raid that really close to Broxbourne Civic Hall is Flames kebab shop. Flames is tremendous and I have called in there on a couple of occasions when I have been down that way for other things than wrestling. WyattSheepMask
Papas in ‘Hull’ (Bilton) is a short drive from me. It’s been a while since I’ve had it, but if we’re claiming that’s in the top 20 in the country the bar must be pretty low. It wasn’t bad, but nothing special by any stretch
Paid Members gmoney Posted August 23, 2018 Paid Members Share Posted August 23, 2018 Olley's Fish Experience, Herne Hill, London This place serves wine, so can be immediate disqualified. I agree with whoever said the only decent chippy down south is by the seaside.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted August 23, 2018 Moderators Share Posted August 23, 2018 Dammit you guys. I can't keep eating fish and chips every time I read this thread.
Richard
Agreed. This thread is dangerous. Washed down with a stout.

Didsbury has Fosters, which is a bit overpriced to be honest, and the old chippy at the end of School Lane that is fucking awful. Heading Burnage way, the Golden Lake on Parrswood Road does cracking chips, as does the one on Didsbury Road in Heaton Mersey.

I didn't want to look like a tourist so I actually timed it once so I'd be the only person in there, it was only then I asked what the difference was. Irish is the spicy version. Nope, I don't know why either.
