Today I learned...

They discovered their family connection during a "Who Do You Think You Are?" rip-off show that Ant & Dec did in the last few years.

Josh Widdecombe gets ancestry dating back to Henry VIII, Declan Donnelly gets Dixie Carter. Some might say she nearly killed Impact, but she's never yet beheaded anyone.

Cant remember how long it took me but definitely a good few months so you're not alone.

I didn't realise until the second or third episode but how on earth did you guys manage not to notice for that long?? You are clearly not giving the show the attention it deserves...

On the Bluey chat, I learned the other day, that the clerk who Bandit is talking to while dancing to the greeting card tone in Dance Mode is Anthony from The Wiggles (Blue one). Might be a random one for most, but we constantly have The Wiggles and Bluey on in our house.

We didn't start watching it in order. The kids tend to just pick whatever episode they want based on the preview picture. So I imagine it was ones where it wasn't explicitly referenced.

Big Wiggles fans here although it disappeared from Netflix so not sure where I'm meant to watch it now.

My boy is only 20 months so has a very short attention span, we rarely make it through a full episode...... and yeah, I'm not paying enough attention

The song ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears was written about Noel Fitzpatrick: The Supervet.

Maybe.

The song was co-written by Cathy Dennis (who also co-wrote songs such as ‘Cant Get You Out of My Head’ by Kylie and ‘I Kissed a Girl’ by Katy Perry) who used to go out with Noel. They split up about a year before the song came out. She’s never admitted it but it all lines up quite well.

Not something I learned today, but something I might learn tomorrow/the months ahead - Fatty Facesitter might be going back to school!

School.JPG.5aee081c586d2f6c27de6b244231cb18.jpeg.e370aee65488a02a75fea4748911a030.jpeg

Essentially, I've been offered a free place on a course my company already runs as part of it's training school. It specialises in a different side of the industry I work in, but it would give me a qualification that I don't already have and one I would love to get my hands on.

It's part time and over quite a long period - 18 months - and although that sounds like a long time, it's actually quite workable for me and my schedule, and means I can probably manage it despite working a pretty hectic role (and the 18 months will fly by - in my line of work that comes round so quickly, you could pass wind and six months could go by).

The only thing holding me back at the moment is that I was a pretty average academic type. Not a total car crash at literacy, but absolutely diabolical at numeracy, average at media studies and a serial offender for a late submission at college and university.

This might sound irrational but I'm absolutely terrified at the prospect of being a student again, even if it’s in a remote setting rather than being in a physical classroom (the whole course is remote/online). I'm 34 this winter and it's been 11 years since I submitted my final university papers or sat any kind of exam.

So for any mature learners out there - how do you do some of the basic things like organising your notes? What's the most effective way you revise and how did you retain the relevant information in spite of what else you have going on in your lives?

Similar to the above, if there are any teachers/education gurus lurking here, any advice you can dispense would be much appreciated, or any words of encouragement to assure me that old dogs can indeed learn new tricks.

I've got until November to make a firm commitment - it's going to eat into my personal time and it probably means an extension of my working hours - if I go through with it, it's going to look really poor if I tap out halfway through. But it does look really interesting and get the physical qualification would be massive validating for me personally and professionally.

Already editing posts for errors - Proof I’m a shite academic.
