Paid Members Thunderplex Posted January 8, 2022 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 8, 2022 I have a few games on my Shelf of Shame that I’ve been frightened to start due to them looking very complex, for example Scythe, Mage Knight and Gloom of Kilforth among others.  Decided to bite the bullet and get Gloom of Kilforth on the table.  Took ages to. Sort and set up, but once you get i the swing, it’s very straightforward and a cracking game.  Didn’t play a full game as it would take a few hours, but will be going back to it soon. BrodyGraham
By all accounts Scythe is pretty straightforward. I've only played the kids version, but my best mate loves it. I've always assumed that like a lot of Stonemaier stuff it's accessible but pulls people in by being a bit production porny. Speaking of kids versions of games, we got Kids Chronicles: Quest for the Moonstones the other day and it's ace. It's convinced me that I need to get one of the Chronicles of Crime or Destinies games.
Paid Members Thunderplex Posted January 21, 2022 Author Paid Members Share Posted January 21, 2022 Gaming associated as I will be getting back into painting my giant backlog of mini’s, what do people think of the army Painter Speedpaints?  I’ve not used GW’s contrast ones due to hating going into GW, so nothing to compare them to really. Paid Members JNLister Posted January 21, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted January 21, 2022 Scythe is a pretty straightforward game once you're playing, but you need to know everything before you start, so it's not uncommon to take well over half-an-hour to teach to new players. It got to the point in our group where most people didn't want to play it with anyone who didn't know it (which is very much not our ethos) rather than sit through the teach yet again. Paid Members chokeout Posted January 25, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) As a responsible 39 year old I have just purchased the new release of Hero Quest, a present i originally got from my dad for Christmas in 1989 (and probably still have in my parents attic). My child like glee vanished about 30 seconds after my gf figured out how much it cost and refused to play. It was then reignited when I told my dad I had it and he told me to bring to home because he wants a go.   Got the app to go with it so I can play single player for a quick nostalgia hit in the meantime. Has anyone else played the new version, looking at it the rules seem identical. Edited January 25, 2022 by chokeout
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted January 25, 2022 Moderators Share Posted January 25, 2022 I still have the original! I dug it it a couple years ago and convinced some mates to play it with me. It was good fun. Tbh the rules could do with some refinement of you compare it to modern day tabletop rpg / dungeon crawlers. But it's simple enough that you can enjoy it for what it is. Paid Members Carbomb Posted January 25, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted January 25, 2022 From what I gather, it is pretty much identical - the only changes have been some names of creatures, and the knight you have to rescue in some quests has been made into a figure. Awards Moderator Onyx2 Posted January 25, 2022 Awards Moderator Share Posted January 25, 2022 (edited) Any excuse to post Bardic. (no, it's a different video to the one you're thinking of) And Ashens did a direct unboxing comparison   Edited January 25, 2022 by Onyx2
cobra_gordo
The original version sells for a fortune if it's complete so dig about in your lofts.
SuperBacon
This is opposite my new office. Had a look round the other day (as I thought there would be more comic books, figures etc) but it's pretty much all card games and board games. Staff were super friendly to someone who had just come in for a browse (not like the fucker in the Kingston comic book shop who just tries to over sell at all times to everyone) and I asked about the experience level needed as me and a colleague are interested in learning a card game and they were very patient explaining it, and have a beginners night so will try and get to one. Went home a little late the other night and the place was rammed with people playing. Well worth a visit if you're in the Staines area (why wouldn't you be). Opens around 3pm though as I assume nerds like a lie in?
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted January 29, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted January 29, 2022 Fanboy Three usually open quite late on the days they open. Presumably they're open from 3 until about 11ish?

The sets aren't out yet, though they should be by the end of the month/early March. This video is a pretty comprehensive review of them and I've got the starter set pre-ordered to paint up my Zombicide miniatures with.
Rey_Piste
@SuperBaconIf you're looking to try and learn how to Magic The gathering I would suggest download MTG Arena. It's free to download for PC, Mac or on mobile. It has a fairly comprehensive tutorial and once you;ve been playing a while it's easy enough to create your own decks. I've become a little bit addicted to playing it and will try to get a couple of games in during my lunch break on my phone.
Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted February 4, 2022 Moderators Share Posted February 4, 2022 Arena is fun but I miss going to a gaming shop to draft MTG. Don't have the time for that kind of thing these days though unfortunately.

There's too many overly competitive players at my local shop and any format like Modern or Standard isn't fun against them.
