I considered watching it on the basis of it being hard to differentiate the evil of Trump’s US with the horrible things done in Saudi Arabia, but in the end I stuck to my guns. It doesn’t achieve a great deal of anything, but it makes me feel slightly better and that’s all I can really ask for in this dark political era that we’re all living through. I’ve read the results though, and I really hope the plan isn’t to find a way to run back last year’s triple threat, but with a title on the line this year. Just do Punk/Reigns, as you should have done last time around. I’m guessing it’ll be McIntyre/Rhodes/Fatu on the Smackdown side, with them finding another way to utilise the men’s Elimination Chamber. Quote

These were his comments. Who is this bouncy bastard. It was Je'Vonn Evans and he liked him. Why do them two share a coat, That was about Trick Williams and Dragon Lee having similar coats. This bloke can fuck right off. Mr Iguana, not a fan. If he wins I'm kicking the telly. Not a fan of Logan Paul. Why are they changing his name. Powerhouse Hobbs is better. On the whole he enjoyed it, probably more than me to be honest. I feel it was just OK. Nothing really exciting. Quote

The Alexa/Charlotte stuff at the beginning was cute. Beating the hell out of Kiana James but then not eliminating her was a bit silly though. Nia Jax was easily the most interesting thing about the first ten minutes, winding up the crowd. doing a bit of monster cleaning house and then giving Kiana James a great highlight spot with the very impressive Samoan Drop. I feel like every time I watch WWE I find myself defending Nia. Clumsy, no doubt, even while I'm praising her here I acknowledge that some of her stuff looked rough as hell, but it works for me in a monster heel agent of chaos sort of way. More importantly she understands how to be a heel. Crowd tells her she sucks? Starts taunting them after everything she does. Lola Vice gets a big reaction? Copy her little dance after flattening her. Was genuinely disappointed when she got eliminated. Still too much of the tired formula of someone coming in and hitting moves on people one at a time while everyone else lays out or feeds for them. Then they blend into the crowd until the next person comes in and repeats. Ivy Nile, Lola Vice, Sol Ruca, Roxanne Perez, Jordynne Grace, Maxxine Dupri, Liv Morgan, Zelina Vega, Kelani Jordan, so many entrants repeating the same sequence. It also kills the impact when someone like Lash Legend comes in. She's set up as the next giant in the match after Nia and she kills everyone in sight when she gets in the ring, but Maxxine Bleedin' Dupri also cleaned house for a bit when she got in the ring, so did practically everyone else. That said, Lash's elimination of Jordynne Grace was a cool spot that I thought deserved a bigger reaction. Sol Ruca's flip into the ring was nice. Also thought it was cool to see her in some Lita-esque gear/street wear that fits her style better than the dreaded body suits. The spot she had later escaping elimination against Bayley was nice as well. She's very well suited to the Rumble and they should definitely get creative and make use of her acrobatics to do some Kofi-esque near misses over the next few years. I also appreciated that she had little showcase moments at multiple points during the match, rather than those marathon Rumble performances where someone is in the ring for a very long time but doesn't do much of note. Saving the first Sol Snatcher and the big elimination for the closing stretch was a great call. Excellent showing in the final three as well with the fantastic double elimination tease. Overall the best booked person in the match, handled like the mega star she has the potential to be. Lots of the theme songs are still terrible and generic and this problem is always at its most noticeable in the Rumble. Even Becky Lynch has shit theme music now. That's very sad. Lyra Valkyria's song manages to be so generic and boring that it somehow stuck in my mind. It's circled back around to being memorable for how dull it is. Maybe that's the sweet spot. Was silently praying for Chelsea Green to turn up for the entire first half, was both thrilled and relieved when she arrived. That back hand slap across Liv's face was magnificent, as was her feeding Sol Ruca to Rhea Ripley. I wish she'd come in earlier and been given more to do. She is just the best. I've found Asuka to be a joy to watch since day one in NXT. One of the best to ever do it, and boy was her star power and presence a welcome addition here. Her, Iyo and Rhea turning up felt like business might pick up, but business was sadly unmoved until the last few minutes. I'm very out of the loop with any news/leaks/spoilers so I'm not sure if this was an expected thing but I was stunned by Brie Bella showing up! Her doing the Danielson kicks to massive Yes! chants was definitely a highlight. Monstrous pop for Tiffany Stratton was lovely, I'd have loved her to win the thing. The final 7-ish was pretty good. Lots of great moments for Lash Legend with the notable scalps and big showdown with Rhea and Raquel. Rhea's elimination looked absolutely devastating and the aforementioned final three was good stuff. On the whole quite a flat and dull Rumble match until the very end with only a handful of bright spots to liven it up. Men's Rumble Oba Femi getting the big entrance for number 1 was tremendous. What a star he is. Watching him tear through the first bunch of opponents was glorious. I laughed out loud at how easily he killed Rusev. I'd have happily seen him take out a few more before being stalled. Trick Williams is also a mega star. Him and Oba Femi were the clear standouts last time I watched NXT, both brimming with star quality and presence. Shame Trick didn't have a particularly standout showing here but the sky's the limit for him. The first ten minutes of this already felt more eventful and more carefully plotted out than the first 40 of the women's Rumble, highlighted by Cody turning up early at number 11. Grande Americano face off was fun. Trying to unmask him while he was holding the ropes with both hands was a nice spot. Seeing "Powerhouse Hobbs" on the Titantron was nuts. Properly surreal and ensured the pop was there for people who might not know about the name change. He looked great, very spiffy new gear too. Hope he kills it in WWE and will miss him from AEW programming. Mr. Iguan's rigor mortis after being choke slammed was superb. Barrett's "a version of this guy competed in WCW" regarding AAA's latest La Parka was funny. Lesnar turning up to a massive pop at the Saudi Rumble is about at 2026 WWE as it gets I suppose. Perhaps there is no moral high ground way to watch, but this was the bit that mad e me feel better about the means by which I chose to Watch this Wrestling. I am the most moral of those who watched this show because I didn't spend any money or subscription fees on it. Bask in my self righteousness. Lesnar eliminating Oba Femi only to be thrown out moments later was lame. Poor Rey Fenix. The Fatu pop up Samoan drop on Je'Von Evans was the best bit of the match for me. Outstanding. Excellent showing from Je'Von Evans overall, with the Orton showdown and the bit where he jumped clean over Oba Femi also being memorable highlights. Fatu getting eliminated because he couldn't stop staring at Drew was a very shit elimination for him. Looked an idiot. Closing bit was decent but maaan I wanted Gunther to win. Pretty boring pair of Rumbles sadly, though at least some of the more exciting NXT-ers/recent graduates got a good amount of shine in them. Edited February 1 by JLM Quote
