Despite what relatively minor, meaningless differences they had before they're two of the most self-aggrandizing performers in the history of the business and probably both see each other as fellow warriors from a more difficult time in the business now or whatever. Then he'll be eyeing 10th Anniversary of AEW into a 40 years of Jericho for a last NJPW match, last CMLL match. and something billed as a "retirement match" in US/Canada. Unless there's an injury I don't see him staying truly retired. Eventually there will be a last match that's permanent. Quote
Paid Members BomberPat Posted January 25 Paid Members Posted January 25 Jericho has said for years that he wanted his retirement match to be against Lance Storm; I don't think he is particularly fussed about getting the biggest platform for his retirement as he is for doing it on his own terms. I will be amazed if he doesn't show up at the Rumble, or at least in time for Wrestlemania - the Fozzy UK tour runs through February, but then pauses until May. So I will be very surprised if he isn't at the Rumble and Wrestlemania, even if he isn't on weekly TV for a month in the interim - that's not unusual for a WWE part-timer. An AEW return, logically, is to come back and do business with Big Bill and Bryan Keith, and that's not on the cards. A WWE return is the Rumble pop (plus, presumably, a decent Saudi payday - contracted talent don't get a boost for those shows, but if that initial appearance is a one-shot it won't come cheap), a Wrestlemania match, some time off, return for Summerslam, then head towards a retirement match and Hall of Fame induction for 2027. For Jericho, at this stage of his career, I think WWE giving him that is more substantial than AEW rolling the dice on the audience welcoming him back and caring enough for a retirement run, when he's already burned through a lot of "greatest hits" stuff in AEW, and the shows haven't suffered for his absence. If nothing else, he's doing the Jericho Cruise in November, and there's no AEW talent announced for it, but there are TNA wrestlers booked. Quote

Rather than a SNME, I’m surprised that they didn’t just schedule in an extra stadium show PLE for December, host it in Boston and name it ‘John Cena’s last match’ or ‘The Last Time is Now’, or something like that. I still find it a baffling choice. The state of modern WWE/TKO is they let cities bid on hosting Cena's last match and Washington DC ponied up the cash. Even with the idea that SNME was due to air on NBC & Peacock, giving the show the largest possibile audience stateside, it was rather small minded having it as Cena's last match. The company had just been on FOX for years and would be doing a half dozen SNMEs a year. Going for a proper PLE would have been more memorable. Quote

Possibly. Roman vs Brock it is! Still can't see Cody vs Punk at all, especially for the second tier title, Drew/Cody/Fatu if Roman doesn't face Drew is my guess. We'll know soon enough I suppose.
