Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted May 22 Paid Members Posted May 22 I think Scotland should beat Haiti. The CONCACAF region isn't very strong right now and Haiti were rarely convincing in qualifying. Morocco aren't the team they were 4 years ago so if they play well they may get a result there. Brazil aren't amazing either but I wouldn't expect Scotland to get anything from them. Even so, Scotland have got a decent chance of getting out of that group. Quote

Respectfully, I don't think it proves anything of the sort. People process things in varying ways, and there are a whole raft of opinions as to what makes a strong mentality. It could easily be argued that Maguire's reaction shows a strong mentality, because he wants it that much. When it comes to psychological stuff, there's no set of fixed criteria, because humans is humans. Personally, I'd argue that anyone who plays any sport at an elite level for a meaningful period of time has a strong mentality of a kind. I'm not saying this means Maguire should have been picked, though. Quote

Should, but I can see Scotland making it far more difficult than it should. We were awful at the Euros when I don't think we really got a bad draw. The squad is pretty similar too. Quote

Doog Posted May 25 Posted May 25 After considering the selections further, whilst I still dont agree with several incusions and omissions, my thought process has shifted to the fact that we've gone in to many tournaments before where ive been delighted with the squad selection and its still resulted in us winning fuck all. So why not see what happens this time. If he can create that club vibe that he wants, we've got a chance, you look at the sides that have won tournaments and there's always a few random players in there as its about forming a team, so who knows. Got no expectations as it stands but I know once ive had probably that second pint leading into the Croatia game I'll be starting to say to my mate that this could be the year... Quote

But for me the talk should be the progress the country has made when it comes to identifying and developing talented English players. It wasnt so long ago that we were all going wild over the Golden Generation which was what, 5 players? Every squad more or less picked itself, with injuries usually only changing the core squad make up. Now, as mentioned above, the manager has a legit pool of about 50 players, with arguments for the vast majority to be included in the squad. That was unthinkable 20 years ago, and most fans(and even pundits), would never have thought we'd be in this position. Quote

It's probably the least hyeped I've ever been for a World Cup because I know I'm only going to be able to watch, at best, a quarter of it. Can't believe it starts in nine days. Can't believe I'm going to miss the two of the Czech matches because they kick off at 3 and 4AM. Gutter. The 2022 World Cup was one of the best ever, despite taking place in Qatar in fucking December, because there were games on throughout the day and the quality was general pretty high. I've got a feeling the quality is going to be lower this time, for some reason. All the shit going on in America, as well as Fifa trying to fleece fans for every penny, has also really dampened things for me. Bring on 2030. Quote

It’s Scotland’s first World Cup since I was a child, yet it almost feels like it’s not happening. My daughter is obsessed with football right now, and I’d love to be able to experience this with her, but it’s unlikely to happen given the kick-off times and the likelihood of Scotland not making it through the group stage. FIFA’s sycophantic treatment of Trump and their greed when it comes to pricing has also smashed away at any enthusiasm I might have had. Quote
