Could it be he's more about getting this young squad experience playing at a major tournament and has an eye on the future?

Yeah that 2022 schedule of 4 games a day in the group stage was absolutely elite.

I'm not up for it either, but I think I'll try and watch a few games with communities from those countries as I have done before, which is always fun. One of my greatest memories is watching a South Korea game in 2002 in New Malden, which is the largest Korean community (per person or whatever) outside of Korea. It was absolutely nuts, and it was only in a restaurant!

I'll still be up like a sad bastard at 4am for Austria vs Jordan or something, but I don't think I've ever cared less. I suppose out of everyone I'd rather England win it, but I'm really not bothered.

As long as the yanks get absolutely annihilated every game I'll be happy.

I think I am going to avoid the internet and social media and probably try watch the games back on I-Player/ITV player during the day for the early morning games.

The one plus about working night shifts is I’ll be able to get to see the majority of games and probably a couple on my days off when I have to stay up late. So glad I won’t be missing any afternoon games, but it’s shit for a lot of people.

Saw that the England squad have flown over and my first thought was “so he wasn’t joking about taking that squad then”.

The Beeb have been uploading highlights of some classics for weeks. I watched the Brazil v Germany semi from 2014 last week. One of the most unbelievable outcomes of all time.

I think they've peaked with today's beauty though:

ITV have been posting iconic moments on their socials but have also posted some clips on YouTube including the last tournament final

England’s best tournament goals (including the first time hearing Brian Moore’s commentary on the Scholes goal vs Tunisia in 98)

And every single goal from Qatar 22

Checked out the fixtures yesterday and the KO times are a bit of a killer for my excitement. I am starting to get into it now. We're running a Panini Sticker Swap on Saturday morning for the kids and I've just ordered World Cup flag bunting to decorate for them and it's stirred some nostalgia in me. Stuck an Italia 90 T-Shirt on today too!

On flags, I've put my England flag up like I always do today. I had several doubts about it, mainly because of the fucking numpties who are currently infecting our country. I don't really want to look like some Reform knuckle dragger. In the end, I decided I'll do what I want. It was up for the Women's Euros last year. It's up for the Men's World Cup. I have pride in our brilliant, diverse football teams if fuck all else.

My ex runs a venue that shows sport, and I asked her if she'd open for that potential round of 16 England game that starts at 1am and she said yeah but she's dreading it. Everyone will be absolutely shitfaced by kick off and even worse by full time, and as we saw last night, the people of Southampton are NOT to be trusted 🙃

The Guardian have done an incredibly comprehensive guide on every player (currently) in the squads. https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2026/jun/04/world-cup-2026-complete-player-guide

I also found out yesterday that only one of the Curacao squad was born there, which makes sense, but I was still surprised.

Edit: erm, think the guide needs some work.

Remember that Sonny goal against Germany in 2018, good times

I will be back in Scotland for the group stage matches and last 32, so excited to be with my best mates as the competition begins, but my expectations are rock bottom for the Tartan Army. Not for any real reason to do with the squad or manager or tactics or anything, as I've barely seen them play over the past decade because of the time zone difference. I just want to keep fairly calm until after the Haiti result, and then whatever happens, happens really!

Might explain the trouble Embolo's having getting into America at the minute if they think he's in and been playing up front for LAFC already

Any excuse to show off ex-United player Tahith Chong's Valderrama

DR Congo have 20 players not born in DR Congo, Morocco 19, Algeria 16, Tunisia and Bosnia and Herzegovina 15

And to think, the majority of the country had an absolute meltdown when Canadian* born Owen Hargreaves played for England.

*Calgary, the greatest of all the Canadas.
