Members SuperBacon Posted June 2 Author Members Posted June 2 Yeah that 2022 schedule of 4 games a day in the group stage was absolutely elite. I'm not up for it either, but I think I'll try and watch a few games with communities from those countries as I have done before, which is always fun. One of my greatest memories is watching a South Korea game in 2002 in New Malden, which is the largest Korean community (per person or whatever) outside of Korea. It was absolutely nuts, and it was only in a restaurant! I'll still be up like a sad bastard at 4am for Austria vs Jordan or something, but I don't think I've ever cared less. I suppose out of everyone I'd rather England win it, but I'm really not bothered. As long as the yanks get absolutely annihilated every game I'll be happy. Briefcase Posted June 2 Posted June 2 I think I am going to avoid the internet and social media and probably try watch the games back on I-Player/ITV player during the day for the early morning games. Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted June 2 Paid Members Posted June 2 The one plus about working night shifts is I’ll be able to get to see the majority of games and probably a couple on my days off when I have to stay up late. So glad I won’t be missing any afternoon games, but it’s shit for a lot of people. Saw that the England squad have flown over and my first thought was “so he wasn’t joking about taking that squad then”. Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted June 2 Paid Members Posted June 2 The Beeb have been uploading highlights of some classics for weeks. I watched the Brazil v Germany semi from 2014 last week. One of the most unbelievable outcomes of all time. I think they've peaked with today's beauty though: Quote
RIDDUM_N_STYLE Posted June 2 Posted June 2 ITV have been posting iconic moments on their socials but have also posted some clips on YouTube including the last tournament final England’s best tournament goals (including the first time hearing Brian Moore’s commentary on the Scholes goal vs Tunisia in 98) And every single goal from Qatar 22 Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted June 3 Paid Members Posted June 3 Checked out the fixtures yesterday and the KO times are a bit of a killer for my excitement. I am starting to get into it now. We're running a Panini Sticker Swap on Saturday morning for the kids and I've just ordered World Cup flag bunting to decorate for them and it's stirred some nostalgia in me. Stuck an Italia 90 T-Shirt on today too! On flags, I've put my England flag up like I always do today. I had several doubts about it, mainly because of the fucking numpties who are currently infecting our country. I don't really want to look like some Reform knuckle dragger. In the end, I decided I'll do what I want. It was up for the Women's Euros last year. It's up for the Men's World Cup. I have pride in our brilliant, diverse football teams if fuck all else. Quote

Everyone will be absolutely shitfaced by kick off and even worse by full time, and as we saw last night, the people of Southampton are NOT to be trusted 🙃 Edited June 3 by SuperBacon Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted June 4 Author Members Posted June 4 (edited) The Guardian have done an incredibly comprehensive guide on every player (currently) in the squads. https://www.theguardian.com/football/ng-interactive/2026/jun/04/world-cup-2026-complete-player-guide I also found out yesterday that only one of the Curacao squad was born there, which makes sense, but I was still surprised. Edit: erm, think the guide needs some work. Edited June 4 by SuperBacon Remember that Sonny goal against Germany in 2018, good times Quote
Mr.Showtime Posted June 4 Posted June 4 I will be back in Scotland for the group stage matches and last 32, so excited to be with my best mates as the competition begins, but my expectations are rock bottom for the Tartan Army. Not for any real reason to do with the squad or manager or tactics or anything, as I've barely seen them play over the past decade because of the time zone difference. I just want to keep fairly calm until after the Haiti result, and then whatever happens, happens really! Quote
Paid Members tiger_rick Posted June 4 Paid Members Posted June 4 I included my WC predictions in the sweepstake thread. For anyone who wants to have a go, I used The Telegraph's predictor. It's well designed and doesn't require you to put all the scores in. The only slightly difficult bit is thinking about who might be the worst third placed teams. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/fifa-world-cup-2026-predictor-simulator/ Quote
