Italy didn't qualify, hilarious, and sadly New Caledonia didn't either. But Iraq did! And now the schedule is done. Someone has handily put this together which helps me as the official ones hurt my head. Algeria vs Jordan at 4am will separate the wheat from the chaff when it comes to hardcore viewing. This will be me: It seems that England will play at least one game at a very unserious midnight or 1am which will be absolute chaos for towns and cities. Surely 90% of people that day won't make it to kick off. Still think England will win it, despite what those friendlies said. Them or France, however I reckon Holland could get a main event run brother and Japan to have a deep Rumble run. Anyone saying Turkey are dark horses should be banned, goes without saying. There is genuinely no greater moment in cinematic history than 1966's "goalkeeper kicks ball high into air, it transitions into a plane supposedly flying the teams in." TIL: Wales being in the 1958 finals was not a case of them playing brilliantly to take a European place. Instead there was one place available for the entirety of Asia and Africa. Israel won by default because nobody would play them (Turkey said they should be in Europe rather than Asia; Indonesia was drawn at home but refused FIFA's demand to play at a neutral ground because of political upheaval in Indonesia; Sudan and Egypt refused to play Israel for political reasons). FIFA had a rule that you had to play at least one game to qualify so they decided Israel would just randomly play a team that came second in a qualifying group somewhere in the world and was willing to play them. Wales was randomly drawn and won the playoff. Quote
Gooner Posted April 17 Posted April 17 We've finally appointed a new manager after sacking Otto Addo at the end of March after losing 5-1 to Austria in a friendly, but letting him take charge of our game next friendly game against Germany a few days later that we lost 2-1 before officially releasing him of his services and finally appointment a new manager a few days ago in Carlos Queiroz. This will be his fifth consecutive time managing a country at the World Cup, he recently left Oman after not being to help them qualify for this World Cup, so he has done real well for himself in being the Ghana manger and getting to manage in another major competition. My memory of him managing is he is very defensive, disciplined in his type of football. He needs to minimum get us out of the group and will go from there, if we do that, with some fortune we could go deep or even all the way in this World Cup. Quote

Aside from all the political stuff with the US, and the halftime show, and Ireland not qualifying and the times of the games, it's all just a bit lifeless. The only thing that would make me less enthusiastic about this World Cup is England winning, which sadly feels like a genuine possibility. Think I'll give it a miss. Quote

Madrid have Quiroz now and Carlo, obvs. Can't think of a third one off the top of my head. Zidane will take France after the tournament. Quote

I wasn't really thinking of the recent past to be honest. Had a random look at a World Cup, 94 as it seemed fitting. You had Hiddink and Parreira who both managed Valencia before taking charge at a World Cup, so that's my new answer and also Marseille as they seem to have had a lot of managers. Quote
