It had been a bit of a slow start in terms of standout performances in this World Cup so far (Cape Verde keeper aside) but today was a day the Big stars lit up the world cup Quote

This is a still from the front, which when you see the moving image is where you see both contact and impact. Christina Unkel is a far better analyst than Cann but it doesn't make him wrong here. I've watched it tons of times and I don't see enough to overturn the ref's decision - except he gave a corner, which it definitely wasn't! Won't labour the point though, plenty of people think it was 100% a pen. Messi is incredible isn't he? Can't run but has enough in his head that he's still quicker to everything. The way he sauntered into the box for his second goal, anticipated an error and created a simple tap in was just so brilliant. The other two goals were classics. A real night for big players and big goals. Mbappe's second goal was a beauty, Austria's opener was a great strike, the Iraq header was a thing of beauty too. Not feeling the keepers though. Some awful errors and poor attempts at saves. Say what you want about this World Cup and the times but falling asleep in front of the football at midnight and waking up at 5:10 to another live match is the dream life, surely? I hope football is all played in the US by the time I retire! Quote

Mowbray blocked me on Twitter years ago for mentioning to @SpykeDudlei1 that I thought he loved himself. Didn't even tag him. Best bit of comms last night was when they showed the ref cam, I think for the Austria penalty and Vicki Sparks said "The ref was in a great position for a pull back". Quote

Not quite the same, but at my age and with my current level of interest in football (compared to other stuff), watching most/all of a couple of games live then watching an 8 minute highlight video of 2 or 3 more games over breakfast is an absolute dream of a way to follow a World Cup. I was thinking about the convenience of the highlights this morning. I remember in USA 94 and the 96 Olympics have to try and catch snippets on the breakfast news if I'd missed stuff. This morning I just got up, watched Austria/Jordan and then stuck the iPlayer on to watch Argentina. I dunno if young people even give a shit now but they've got it so fucking good if they do. Quote

Getting old and being permanently knackered means the 2am and 5am games have proved a stretch too far for me.
