Rossman Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Tunisia didn't concede or lose a game in qualifiers. Then got battered by Sweden. Very ruthless which is surprising for a Graham Potter team. Isak looked good, and two thunderbolts from Brighton's Yasin Ayari. Just his luck, first World Cup and you score two crackers and you can't celebrate because your dad's Tunisian. Ecuador v Ivory Coast had a lot of chances. Woodwork got hit 4 times. The game seemed very open, lots of pockets of space opening up. Ecuador played some lovely interplay footie, hitting the bar twice in the first half. And Enner Valencia, having a great chance to get on the score sheet. You could see why they finished 2nd in the qualifiers. Diomande looked like a class youngster. Could open up defences, cross balls onto a plate. Then you've got Nicolas Pepe fluffing the shot. Ecuador were on a 19 match unbeaten streak. They need a good result against Curacao to stand a chance of moving on. Quote
Paid Members garynysmon Posted June 15 Paid Members Posted June 15 (edited) Given Wales’ record, its ridiculous to complain about the few tournaments we’ve qualified for. But fuck it, I will anyway. Seeing the Scots having an absolute whale of a time in Boston this weekend is breaking my heart and FOMO levels are at an all time high…not going to lie. Only we could 'waste' our rare tournaments on a Euro 2020 that we weren’t even allowed to fly to, and then stinking up WC 2022 in Qatar. (Ok, a week in Qatar was cool for what it was but still, its fucking Qatar). Meanwhile, missing out on Germany 2024 and now this one…. Fuck sakes. That said… Enjoyed the tournament so far. Think Japan have something about them, could go far. The 3am kick offs have completely fucked up my World Cup OCD though, given I traditionally try and watch every game. The all-time greatest World Cup in terms of kick off times was Brazil 2014. 5pm, 7pm and 11pm matches. Will never be bettered. Edited June 15 by garynysmon Quote
Members SuperBacon Posted June 15 Author Members Posted June 15 To a man, those Cape Verde players are heroes. That's got to be one of the all time incredible World Cup results. Spain were absolutely dreadful, as boring as they've ever been, devoid of ideas, but take nothing away, that is amazing for Cape Verde. Just a shame we had to share it with Matterface and Dixon. SaitoRyo Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Those Cape Verde lads got me so emotionally invested in them potentially winning that, that I was genuinely gutted when that header at the end didn't go in for them. What a bunch of workers. Put the belt on Cape Verde. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted June 15 Paid Members Posted June 15 Their keeper made some incredible stops. Good for them! Quote
Rossman Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Vozinha will never have to buy a drink in Cape Verde ever again! Spain forward Mikel Oyarzabal made World Cup history. First player since records began, (1966) to not touch the ball in the first 30 minutes of a World Cup game. And they're playing Cape Verde, and all Spain do is pass the ball around. With the youngsters Spain have got, it's like they're a knock off from the glory years & created on Pro Evo Soccer. Use to have Pedro now there's Pedri. Use to have Xavi, now there's Gavi. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted June 15 Paid Members Posted June 15 That was like the Spain of 10 years ago. Endless sideways passing to absolutely nowhere. Could have played for 3 more days and not scored. England are gonna fucking win it, aren't they. Quote

Mr_Danger Posted June 15 Posted June 15 If all you’re going to do is pass the ball at least put a striker on so they can kick it at the goal when they eventually crab it up there. Boring cunts. Even though Mbappe is a massive bellend and Rabiot is a weird mummies boy I really hope the French come to life in this tournament because that group of forwards is ridiculous. Quote

Merzbow Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Almost as embarassing as Spain were the empty seats all over, probably the most noticeable yet with it being such a huge stadium. Quote

Paid Members Statto Posted June 15 Paid Members Posted June 15 I had Oyarzabal as Golden Boot winner in both the sweepstake at work and the prediction competition I'm in primarily on the basis I thought he'd fill his boots tonight (and that I had Spain for winners so he'd play more games than most). I also had Spain 7-0 in the prediction thing, which I'm glad I mitigated down from 9-0 in the first draft. Glad I did, that could have been embarrassing. Quote
