I just think it would confuse matters too much What do you do with the added time that has been accumulated in the opening 22 mins of the match? Do you add it to the time before the "hydration break" (feels dirty just typing it) or keep In pocket until the 45 mins is up, will we start to see a board go up with 1 min at 21 mins in the future Stopping the clock really would just make it 4 qtrs as well, at least with the clock running it can be perceived as still being the same half of football. However, they can't stop the clock for the water breaks. The laws of the game state that time lost is added. That's the same for an injury, a sub, a dog running on the pitch or a drinks break. Drinks breaks are nothing new, teams at grassroots levels ask for one anytime the temp gets above 15 degrees! The specified 3 minutes is the only unusual bit. I've enjoyed the clampdown on time wasting. I think it's necessary. I do like the way players will always come up with something though. At throw-ins, they're already making sure they do not pick the ball up because then the 5 second count will start. The subs, throws and goal kicks do seem a lot quicker though. Germany game went as expected, although not without a period in the first half were Curacao had them rattled, created some momentum that led to their goal and genuinely looked like they could score the next goal at 1-1. They were helped by the Germans been pretty easy to play through and making terrible decisions. There was a point were Wirtz was having to dig them out at right back because Sane tried a ridiculous back heel in his own half. Sane was crap. They scored 7 times, he played 90 minutes and managed not to register a goal or assist. Netherlands v Japan was one of the group games I was most looking forward to and it didn't disappoint, eventually! Two sides who don't look capable of going further than the quarters but are exciting to watch. Japan are a bit more fluid and creative. The Dutch are a bit rigid and one-dimensional, which is criminal given the level of talent. 9/11 Dutch starters were PL players last season. Don't think even England will beat that on Wednesday. I really like Summerville for West Ham, he's a player you get excited about when he gets the ball. Pleased to see him step up here. He'll get a good move after the tournament. Disappointing that they couldn't find a right back called Van to make an entire back 4 though. Poor that. Dumfries should retire to Spain in shame. Impressive stuff from Sweden overnight. Genius from them to throw the qualifiers knowing they had that Nations League play-off spot in their back pocket, then arrive at the play-offs and decide to be fucking brilliant. They were helped by Tunisia being appalling so wouldn't get excited yet. Had Ecuador v Ivory Coast on but slept through it. Didn't even realise there'd been a winner til I watched the highlights. Lovely goal by Amad. Poor result for Ecuador. I'd imagine they'll rack up enough GD vs. Curacao to go through with 3 points but they look world class until you get to the front players and that cost them here. Some really crap finishing, especially from Enner Valencia, who they rely on. Love this guy. What's your 90s cult hero and certified "Barclaysman" name? I'll be Rick Amokachi Geovanni. Quote
