Apparently the rule is...

- If a corner has been awarded but should be a goal kick then VAR can intervene

- But they can't do so if a goal kick has been awarded that should have been a corner.

The reasoning being that they wouldn't want a team to incorrectly score from a corner.

Ah right. Makes sense. VAR seems to exist just to rule out goals.

Your going to enjoy VAR in the Premier League next season. 😉

Catching up on The Rest Is Football on Netflix

Christ. I can't think of anything worse, and I watch some right shit!

I also hated the "Gary Neville pod-ification" of the Mexico vs South Africa game last night, where it seemed they'd all been told to start their awful fake bickering rather than discuss things like you know, actual pundits.

I did however enjoy Ally McCoist and Jon Champion, as they're always excellent, and Ally was back in form, after me souring on him a little bit after his TNT work last season, but that's more to do with the rest of them.

I also really enjoyed Andros Townshend on the South Korea game, I think he's decent, and has a good energy about him. At one point he couldn't quite identify just who nearly got on the end of a ball, fair it's fast moving and often a blur, and just said "one of the Lees!" which got a pop out of me.

I don't normally watch/listen, I forget about it. It was really good though. Understandable if you don't like it, I text our kid about it but he won't watch anything with Micah on. The big racist.

I like Micah. He's infectious. He's got a personality I can't be arsed to have!

I don't mind him as a person, I've just never heard a single insightful thing come out of his mouth, but this is pretty much all moot as I don't tend to listen to much of what the pundits say. I'd rather go for a fag at half time. Obviously I'll be hanging on every word Big Ange says when he turns up though.

I thought he was really good on Jude Bellingham on the England preview, tbf to him.

I hope Ange is on the Beeb because he's getting his visa revoked the first time he answers a question about the situation in the US.

Andros Townshend

Oh that’s who it was. I put the highlights on today and saw the name Townsend and assumed Andy and wondered why he sounded so different.

I'd love Sonny to go far and do well of course, and can definitely see them making the last 16/quarters.

Well judging from last night there's no reason why Son and the team as a collective, can't do really well.

Just shows that the World Cup is still a useful measuring tool. I keep up with World Cup qualifying and the continental tournaments so it's obvious South Korea are a very good side in Asia but years ago, that wouldn't have meant much against a middling European side like the Czechs. South Korea are miles better than them though. Other than, fitting the steotypes nicely, set peices, the Czechs are nowhere near as good technically, couldn't match them for movement and invention and have no-one with the flair or pace that almost all the Koreans seem to have. They're an excellent unit. Fuck knows how they and Japan have failed to win the last two AFC titles.

Yes definitely the Czechs were technically lost at sea compared to what South Korea were bringing and they were able to make the right adjustments and ultimately get the job done. Imagine this side made 4th place again like Japan '02.. They certainly left no stone unturned in the way they prepared for this world cup. can't see them getting to 4th but I am hoping they continue to do well this tournament.
