Panama vs Ghana was great drama at the end, and the Ghanaians celebrating was quality. I can't see either team troubling England at all, but I'd play Spence at RB, who is probably England's best 1v1 defender, against Semenyo, and shift James into central defence with Guehi.

Spence is also probably the quickest out of the lot so that'd help as well.

Essay incoming warning.

I was an avid football fan growing up but lost interest as I got older and haven't really followed football since the mid 2000's to the point where I probably can't even list all the Premiership teams now.

Last night was the first time I watched England and thoroughly enjoyed the game. I never really supported England with all my heart because of the gammons and general public hysteria every time there was a tournament but I whole heartedly want this team to win the World Cup, I've not gotten this behind England since the Euros in 1996. They are a great bunch of players and I'm actually really looking forward to the next game. I would ideally like only black players to score goals from now on as (I know they don't really have the cognitive dissonance for this) I look forward to watching all the gammons heads exploding and them not really knowing how to cope with owing the England World Cup to players they don't really consider to be English.

I get this thinking from people of colour, but you can always say that Harry Kane and Declan Rice are both of Irish descent which usually shuts people up :)

Wait until they find out Djed Spence is the first Muslim to play for England, they'll explode!

Thank you for reference, I didn't know that and will use it happily!

I'm usually that one contrarian lefty that jokes about wanting England to lose but this squad like the previous at the Euro's it's hard to not root for them. I still want a Ghana win though because of Brandon Thomas-Asante (just hoping no-one poaches him from Cov after the cup..)

It's even better when the women are on screen talking about football. That really short circuits their brains!

This is going to be a rather tangential rant so apologies for that, but need to get it out after a morning of arguing with a sexist moron I don't know (so seeking the comfort of liberal morons I do know 😊)

Guy who's running the prediction thing I'm in posted the standings after round 1 with a well-meaning quip about "all being beaten by a girl" - his wife is currently leading. Sadly, this seems to have been taken as a green light by a couple in the group (one in particular) to go "What about that Emma Hayes, hey lads? Shouldn't be on the telly should she lads? Know nothing about football do they lads, women?"

The thrust of his argument is that "She's just making up things that aren't proper football terms". Might you consider the possibility that if she, a highly respected and successful football coach, is using them they might just be football terms that YOU don't know or haven't heard yet?? (Probably because they're not used on FIFA). And that's the very reason she's on there to give us a glimpse into that world?

Edit: Haha, I was typing that through David's reply, but what a lovely set-up!

Unfortunately there is a much worse Thomas in their squad. I hope someone two foots the cunt into the stands.

Edit: Emma Hayes is absolutely fantastic and luckily I've seen nothing of anyone talking shit about her. The only thing I've seen is some fairly lighted hearted memes around her such as "Emma Hayes knows when the fruity is about to drop" etc which is funny, and I'm sure someone will point out that's steeped in sexism as well, even though she herself has acknowledged them and thinks its funny.

She currently holds the top job in womens sport, and is far far more qualified to talk than say, I dunno, Gael Clichy (who is fine by the way, just needed a name)

I'm still rooting for them after all the awful racist shit Saka, Rashford, and Sancho had to put up with. I'm like deathrey - I want all the black players to excel, and score the winning goals in all the matches.

When France won it in '98, it shut Le Pen up for years. I want to see that this WC.

I have never been able to support En-ger-land and feel justified whenever I see the large number of racist Reform gammon cunts and “lads” who support them. Nothing but respect for the black players though.

To be honest, every fanbase has its arseholes, no one's club or country is different.

It's a shame because over the last 4 or 5 tournaments the official England supporters group has done so much when they've gone over to countries for tournaments, from toy drives, donations, community projects etc but it's rarely spoken about or shown.

I saw a video online today of England fans with bin bags cleaning up empties which was nice. And you know I wasn't even going looking for it, what with my level of interest in football.
