I've been told by one of the many people that were made redundant at my previous workplace (a legal tech AI company) that they were only hitting 10% of their sales targets. Obviously, I'm cherry-picking and biased, and it's going off vibes and feels, but the idea that the gold rush of the AI market has been overestimated by about 90% feels... about right. There's money to be made and there are benefits, but they're massively overhyped and about to get a LOT more expensive as token cost ramps up. On the flip-side, the way expectations have gone out of control according to other marketers and developers I've talked to is ludicrous. All it's done is given higher-ups higher confidence in ideas, because they can be shown a 'working minimum viable product' that is far more unstable and patchy than previous versions were - so all the work is being knocked down the line. In the same way, the marketing isn't landing, so they bring people in to 'make it read better'. And they're all convinced it's currently 90% done, despite a lot of work having to be undone to move forward. Quote

The image started out with a couple sat next to each other, seemingly sharing one trouser leg for both of their legs. He fixed that, but left the bloke with a four foot long arm, and hints of a third arm, and said "and as you can see, this is now perfect." Quote

The bubble is bursting as we speak. I’d be half tempted to actually mention it to them, but I’m convinced that if you’re thick enough to think this stuff looks good to begin with then you’re too thick to ever think otherwise. Quote

Paid Members FLips Posted July 27 Paid Members Posted July 27 Had a meeting with “the higher ups” at work about our new AI objectives and plans and it was a universal “fuck off this is rubbish” from everyone in the room, myself included, when asked for our feedback on it. They still tried to convince us that using AI will clear up time for us and result in upwards training and movement with all the free time we’ll suddenly have, and not result in layoffs or jobs being replaced which it obviously will. When I asked how all of us magically having less responsibility will effect our end of year bonuses since AI will be doing work for us and we’ll be doing less, it was met with a “oh we hadn’t thought of that”. It can all get in the bin. It’s shite. Quote
