General AI thread

Despite the attempts of a few scamps on here trying to pass off AI-written posts as their own thoughts, and  in contrast to the wave of social media trends that get done to death, I want to see your original/fun/useful/genuinely humorous uses of AI.

I’ve tried most of what is available, but always come back to ChatGPT which seems to be far more useful and accurate. We’ve adopted Copilot at work purely due to compliance, but I’ve set myself up with a VM that I can access without IT knowing, just so I can access ChatGPT (Copilot seems a bit naff).

I left the life of a software developer a couple of years ago, mostly as I got bored of it, and ChatGPT has filled a void for me when I need something but don’t have the time or interest to code it.

We had an AI image thread a few years back, but it’s come on such a long way since then.

You can post anything, be it clever, useful, impressive or silly, and I hope nobody will get too sniffy for anything that may be deemed a little lowbrow.

I’ll start you off with The Day Today as Muppets.

Yeah. I've never knowingly seen an AI image that wouldn't have been a million times better as a half arsed Photoshop.

I’m so out of touch with this shit. Is this where the action figure thing has come from? People at work have been milking that to death the last week. Like a lot of these trends, the first couple I saw on Monday were mildly amusing. By about Wednesday and what felt like the 957th one I was shown, not so much.

How long would it take you to make those Muppet images in Photoshop? And even then, would it be noticeably better than what's been posted?

AI has made things too easy. People passing off the lowest denominator most uncreative, unfunny and generic shit as worthwhile. If AI didn't exist no one would have bothered making the above rubbish pictures because they wouldn't be worth the effort. But at least if they did the unpredictable human element involved may have resulted in the addition of something genuinely amusing, original or creative.

1) I don't know or care

2) Yes. My point wasn't that it would be good, but better. I'd argue that if you're churning out AI slop based on a barely considered idea, there's no potential for it to be good or interesting. What's the point of it? It's just nothing. At least if someone fucks about on photo editing software they presumably have a vision for it and it might have some kernel of worth.

I'll always appreciate genuine creativity over someone sticking a slightly adapted prompt into AI.

It's lazy for writing. It's lazy for art. It's allowing people to stop all sense of imagination and creation for the sake of jumping on trends quickly.

It's a tool where it's only endgame is a negative on the human race and I say that as someone who currently works with a very archaic version of it for work.
Companies employee it to replace jobs under the guise of making work easier for them. It's used to churn out creatively dead work en masse for people who don't have the skill to create it themselves. It's a private data gathering machine disguised as fun apps to soak up all your personal information and sell it to the highest bidder.

You go to a craft fair and it's slop printed on the side of bags, you watch a movie trailer online and it's a disgusting smooth glazed filter over the original footage disguised as "upscaled", you get recommended a "funny" parody song and it's a prompt put into an app because the creator has no original thoughts and wants to get monetized and famous online.

It sucks and people should be embarrassed to use it.

Someone i spoke to recently was surprised I didn't use AI to write my emails. If I ever get to that point I'll just give up on myself as a person.

I don't care for the Muppets and Day Today images myself, but I can appreciate that technically it's got good and is getting better at creating these images.

I've seen a load of shit AI content flood the internet. I know that it fetches data and content without consent and without paying any fees to those creators. I'm not talking about the morals of it or its impact on the future of art or creativity. I'm directly referring to what I quoted - I'm saying that, for the images above and what it set out to do, ChatGPT's done it well - likely about as good as Photoshop would do it in much less time.
