Some ended up getting their names back but such a stupid, pointless thing. Quote

Fucking Neville. It always reminded me of when the contestant got the big intro on Gladiators. You'd get the Gladiator first 'Here's Warrior!!!!!' and then cut to the normal looking contestant looking sheepish 'Here's Nevilllleee!!'. Quote

Wasn’t there a period of time, probably around the same time in fact, where the mad bastard decide there should be loads of 2 out of 3 Falls matches on weekly TV? Or have I completely imagined that Quote
Paid Members Statto Posted February 10, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 10, 2025 Yes. He passed down a diktat that no wrestling could occur during commercial breaks, so it had to be booked around with loads of 2-out-of-3 falls matches, matches ending in quick DQ'd but getting restated after the break, elimination matches, matches ending with run-ins on both sides turning into tags after the break etc. At one point I think they chained 3 of the above together and it ended up with a 2-out-of-3 falls six-man tag. I hope they don't actually change his name as it's his real and brilliant name but as he hasn't been in the big leagues yet, maybe they might. Literally everyone there should absolutely not encourage him to do a Damien Sandow arrives in TNA speech though. Just go out and smash it Ricky lad. Quote

Paid Members garynysmon Posted February 10, 2025 Paid Members Posted February 10, 2025 Wrestling fans who complain about 'dirt sheets'. Yes, aggregate internet sites are shit and mostly peddle nonsense, but I mean complaining about newsletters in days gone by. I suspect its an attempt to try and sound "like the boys", but while I can understand why some wrestlers and promoters wouldn't like backstage stuff being leaked, from a fan's point of view why on earth wouldn't you like them? Without newsletters and their reporting there's a chance we'd all still be wondering why the Big Boss Man disappeared from the WWF in early 93. Quote

Without newsletters and their reporting there's a chance we'd all still be wondering why the Big Boss Man disappeared from the WWF in early 93. A lot of it just comes down to people who feel like they're getting bogged down in rumours, or having surprises ruined for them, and imagine that there was a perfect time where nobody knew anything outside of what happened on TV, when what they mean is that they were 14 years old and they hadn't figured it out yet. If it's not dirt sheets, it's "The IWC", which in 2025 is surely absolutely everyone who watches wrestling. There was a spate of stuff on Twitter years ago of people saying, "imagine if the IWC had been around for..." next to old clips from the '90s and '00s, implying that people would have complained about it online. And lots of people pointed out that "The IWC" was around for all of those things, it didn't just magically come into being the moment you started posting about wrestling on Twitter. As I tend to point out to people who think that discussing wrestling insider stuff on the internet started with Twitter, I used to post on the same forum as Lou Thesz. Quote
