The lack of long-running feuds.

We are at the point where Kevin Owens is feuding with Cody Rhodes because Cody teamed with Roman after the Bloodline broke up and helped put them back together. Owens having feuded with the Bloodline over 2 years ago and Cody having back to back Wrestlemania main events with the Bloodline. Owens is now back to feuding with Sami Zayn who he has feuded with on and off over 10 years and CM Punk, Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns are set to feud over events of the last 12 years that have be reignited. Long term storytelling and long running feuds are not lacking in WWE. In AEW you have the long term redemption arc of Hangman Page and the now reignited feud between Kenny Omega and The Callis Family.

There are loads of long running feuds and stories in wrestling.

OK, so WWE gets to run 12 PLEs a year, & then, if you're watching & keeping track of them, the others (TNA, AEW, New Japan, ROH, etc.) have their versions of PLEs interspersed.  Just seems like a fairly heavy schedule for the mid-level fan to be in line with.  Casual fans certainly won't give a crap about keeping up, & that's where the biz loses the appeal.  One company isn't wrestling, & over-saturation of "the one" tends to balls it up for the rest of the class.

Companies want to keep people hooked, I get it, but think back to the 90s when there were loads on TV; WWF, WCW, SMW & USWA alone were building up & catching the casuals, who are (hopefully) todays addicts.  We don't have that these days because of "the one" & the lack of long-running feuds.

When you word it from that point of view then you've got a point but each company does of course want to get all our wrestling cash for themselves like any business. My view doesn't change and is perhaps skewed from getting into wrestling in 2000 when PPVs were "free" and really only WWF/E was worth watching or available to watch.

The quality of wrestling discourse online is now the worst its ever been.

It feels that absolutely everything has to be viewed through the prism of this AEW/WWE culture war and you have to pick sides. In doing so you have to believe that everything the other side does is dogshit and your chosen side is bigger and/or righteous.

Pro AEW or WWE accounts (which are mainly negative WWE/AEW accounts), even podcasters and 'journalists' nailing themselves to whatever mast just to farm engagement.

I'm probably only noticing this more now that TNA has also been dragged into this boring never ending nonsense, but by god its tiresome. Bad faith actors everywhere.

Absolutely agree on this one. Without shilling my own projects one thing I've written down as a promise to myself with the SEA Wrestling site is that it's a positive contribution to the wrestling scene and not an arena for feuds, snarky comments, rumors etc.

Gosh, I don't mean here

I would say there's definitely a little bit of it here, sadly. You can't even take the piss out of Triple H (of all people) on here without 1 or 2 posters getting upset or going straight to the tribalism bollocks.

On the long term story subject, I actually think there's too much emphasis on it sometimes. Wrestling fans (and bookers) often equate long with good and drag stuff out longer than it needs to be. Novels are great but so are novellas! Sometimes a short, sweet and action packed story is better.

They're a company where real names sound awfully bland and are unmarketable so they've historically embellished them and come up with crazy gimmick names or nicknames. They have the capacity to do that because it's wrestling and it's a colourful whacky world. And yet they come up with names that are 10 time worse than just using real names.

Imagine if The Ultimate Warrior came along now and they just called him "Brax Thompson" or summat?

It's really a minor miracle that Chantel Monroe and Aria Bennett are not already assigned to porn stars.

You just take any first name from the 100 most popular new names list and any surname from a WWE wrestler in the 2000s and bam, Ezra Kendrick and Josiah Conway. New Tag Team.

"So hey we got this guy coming in. Rick Steiner's kid. Name of Bronson."

Ok, Bronson Steiner. Badass, got it.

"Nah, we're shortening it to Bron."

Bron Steiner, ok, not quite as badass but not bad.

"Not quite. His surname is Breakker."

Bron Breaker?

"The Breaker bit is spelt with two Ks actually."

I'm convinced someone at NXT or wherever just comes up name ideas by watching that MST3K episode, where they keep making up absurd names for Reb Brown's hero in 'Space Mutiny' on repeat.

I am still fuming about this. Such an incredibly dog shit name, when there were about half a dozen other ways they could have gone that could have played off his real name, and/or the Steiner name, that would have been totally badass.
