WHAT PLAY YOU!? Version 3.0

I recently finished Hollow Knight, which I was very late on getting into but absolutely loved, and the 40th Anniversary edition of Carmen Sandiego, which is a game for children but was a nice bit of nostalgia and stress-free gaming.

I generally try and have a "story" game and a more casual game on the go at the same time; something I can sink a couple of hours into, and something I can just pick up and play for 15 minutes. My partner struggles with big story-heavy AAA games, but if she gets into the story, quite enjoys watching me play them, so we often end up with an agreement wherein I will only do main story stuff when she's around and just do grinding and side-quests or collectibles or whatever when she's not.  

The current story game is Spider-Man 2. I didn't play the Miles Morales DLC from the previous game, and  it's been about six years since I played the first game, so I'm still getting used to the controls and having to get my head around the bits of the story I missed. I'm enjoying it, but it's a bit too similar to the first game to instil the same sense of amazement at how cool it is to play as Spider-Man. The story is still very much in the phase of getting all the pieces in place, so I'm not won over yet, and my girlfriend is curious but not in the "wanting to watch every time I play" space yet - Kraven has popped up as a villain, and he's one of my favourites, but she doesn't know him, so there's no real investment there yet. I'm sure it will be fun.

The casual game for the moment is Once Upon A Katamari. It's fun, as all Katamari games are, but definitely one of the weaker ones in the series. They've added a lot of bells and whistles, and I don't think they all necessarily improve the game. There's a very crowded HUD that, as far as I can tell, you can't turn off, so you have the controls constantly displayed on-screen along with a load of other info, so it's easy for the screen to get too cluttered. It seems like there's a lot more instances of just getting stuck behind an object or in a corner and struggling to get out than there was in any previous game, which is particularly frustrating when most of the levels are time-sensitive.

I've been pretty consumed by Sts2. Alex dlc has dropped in sf6 and I haven't even had a go with him yet... Going my to have my second go at sts2 multiplayer tonight. First time was a blast - it works so well! 

Still can't really get my head around how to play The Regent though. Also I am loving the Silent's new kit so much and she was always my favourite character anyway, so it takes willpower not to just select her every time I start a new game.

That's it for me. I loved the first, enjoyed Miles Morales, but within a couple of hours of this one I felt like I was playing the exact same game as the first except with some additions that weren't particularly enjoyable. So I've binned it off.

I've also finally given up on Clair Obscur after getting a fair bit into Act 2. I was just fairly bored and found it difficult to engage with. It was fine but nothing special enough about it to get me hooked at any point.

I enjoyed it, but mainly the turn based combat. I couldn't make head nor tail of the plot, so while I enjoyed the voice acting and the art style was charming, I didn't have a clue what was going on almost all of the time.

I am on a mission to finish the Resident Evil 3 Remake tonight so I can jump immediately into Death Stranding 2's PC release tomorrow. I'm enjoying it well enough so far, it definitely feels lesser than the 2 Remake and I had a bit of a deflating moment realising this first Carlos section was going to be in the Resi 2 environment - maybe something I wouldn't feel if I hadn't played both games back to back but it doesn't feel great to be back here but with an Assault Rifle now.

Now that I don't have analogue drift to worry about I might have another pop at Resi 4. I've also got my XBox One down from storage and it turns out I still have XBox Live, so there could be some catching up to be done there as well.

Is anyone familiar with the Trine series? I've just got the platinum in Trine 2 and loved it. They're 3D platformers/puzzle games with an interesting twist - you play as three characters and you can switch between them at will. Each character has different abilities and skills and you'll need to rely on all three of them to navigate your way through the levels. There's a wizard, an elf and a knight and, for example, the wizard can conjure blocks and planks you can use as platforms, the elf has a grappling hook to swing across gaps and a bow for range attacks and the knight wields a sword making him best for close-quarters combat.  However, there are often multiple ways of dealing with problems so if one character dies, you can still get to the next checkpoint. 

I had never heard of Trine at all until very recently when I picked up the first 4 games as a bundle very cheap in the depths of a PS Store sale. They look absolutely gorgeous too. You traverse through beautiful fantasy landscapes like mountains, dungeons, forests and seashores. Have a look at these below. Anyone else familiar with Trine? For me, they were such a pleasant surprise.

It’s one of my favourite games in the last 10 years, once you play through it a 2nd time(do it as soon as possible after your first) you appreciate it even more, story written by an absolute genius and unfortunately most people don’t appreciate the game “because it doesn’t take place in Silent Hill”

The Resident Evil 3 remake is for some reason 90% off on Steam, it's the weak link in recent Resi games but still great fun and worth far more. 

I'm finally playing Resident Evil 5 actually, it's... fine? The main issue is the colour palette, it's from that era where all backgrounds are a shade of brown and also everything is an action set-piece including multiple on-rails turret sections.. I've got Revelations 2 after which seems to have a small cult following and is seen as a forgotten gem of the series.

Barely even a game. Closer to a collection of old Flash games you would play on a site like Newsgrounds in the mid 2000s. None the less it charmed me and I enjoyed it a lot.

Would you mind if I asked where abouts your from/live? I'm from Barnsley, so all the little jokes hit and I always wondered if people not from here(or Yorkshire) get the same kick out of it that my friends and i got?

Just wrapped this up and thoguht it was a blast. Going straight from 2 Remake to 3 Remake you can feel why it was upsetting. Think it took me 4 hours to blast through, so half the length of 2 Remake with no mention of a B route or anything to go back for.

But I hadn't paid full price for it and my four hours was a great deal of fun so my nose isn't out of joint. I'll likely eventually replay it on a harder difficulty and see how scared I can be of Nemesis.

I've gotten really sick so haven't been able to put much of a dent in Death Stranding 2 now it's out on PC, but that opening is enough to assure me it's going to be exactly what I want.

I'm a Londoner. I've never been to Barnsley and haven't really spent much time in the north at all so there's probably a load of little jokes that went over my head. I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Power Wash Simulator 2 has some new free content available. It's the "miniature village". I think the Adventure Time DLC is out soon. 

I've been looking at picking up an XBox Series X or S so I can get back into Train Sim World over the summer. I'm going to see what I get for selling my old consoles to my local Geek Retreat. There are some really interesting routes on there, particularly the Manchester Piccadilly/airport one as it goes by so many stations I used to live near, to the point that in theory one of my previous addresses should be in the game.
