It’s like a cross between Viva Piñata and Stardew Valley, with a bit of Minecraft and Sim City sprinkled in - I’ve never been a Minecraft fan, but you don’t have to get creative to build up your village, you can simply fix it up and buy kits to build houses etc. Unlike - for example - Animal Crossing - you’re not limited in what you can do each day, meaning you don’t hit that wall at which you decide to stop playing. There’s loads to do and discover, and lots of experimentation when it comes to building habitats to attract Pokemon. You get hints, but sometimes to decide to try things that seem logical and they do indeed work. It’s very, very addictive. Quote

Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 11 Paid Members Posted March 11 A review I read described it as "all the best bits of cosy games, plus Pokémon". Sounds like a hell of a time sink. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted March 11 Paid Members Posted March 11 It’s all the little quality of life improvements it does that Animal Crossing didn’t as well. Everything feels just a little faster and a little less clunky. Not as much messing about doing basic things. Quote
Merzbow Posted March 11 Posted March 11 I don't think anyone expected this game to be the "killer app" of the Switch 2 but it seems like it has blown up, people are buying consoles just for it. Animal Crossing did the same last gen but that also had the perfect timing of coming out during lockdown when everyone needed something like it. Quote

Animal Crossing was escapism from the pandemic, whereas this is perfect escapism from…well…all the shitty things going on all the time in 2026. I’d never really thought about that while playing it, but it absolutely does leave you forgetting about that kind of thing, allowing you to exist in this happy little world. A world that seems to be post-apocalyptic, but y’know, at least it suggests better things are to come if things really do go south. Quote
Paid Members FLips Posted March 11 Paid Members Posted March 11 I had to get it digitally because physical (not really physical, they’re gamecards or whatever) are sold out until at least April. People are scalping copies on Ebay. Quote

Members SuperBacon Posted March 12 Members Posted March 12 My eldest absolutely loves Animal Crossing, Stardew Valley etc and they really help with her anxiety. She's sunk ridiculous hours into both and she's said she wants this Pokemon one. Think it'll make a nice present for when she passes her GCSEs as if I buy a Switch 2 now, she won't bloody revise Quote
Paid Members Nexus Posted March 12 Paid Members Posted March 12 Slay the Spire 2 is already consuming my life. It's everything that's good about Slay the Spire 2 but with new characters (both good), new cards (some excellent), and new events. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 12 Paid Members Posted March 12 I started playing Tinykin and it's really good and relaxing and funny. Obviously aimed at balding men with two teenage kids. Quote
Merzbow Posted March 12 Posted March 12 Played Zero Parades, the demo of the follow up to Disco Elysium (none of the main writers are working on it) and it's annoyingly good, the initial dialogue with the protagonist is rough but it starts to get much, much better when you leave the first room. It's set in a gorgeous Latin American inspired world with an encroaching Techno-Fascist state on it's heels, filling the country with it's media propaganda. Some of the best written NPCs I've come across in years, one physical media fetishist is especially great. You can tell when it's trying to ape DE a little too much though, hitting those "remember that game you love?" synapses to pull you in.. it did the opposite for me. But yeah, it looks amazing. Quote
The King Of Swing Posted March 17 Posted March 17 Fatal Frame II Crimson Butterfly Remake (PS5) Or Project Zero II, for UK fans of the PS2 original. Can't fucking believe that I didn't find out about it until only a couple of days ago. Only about 30 minutes in and so far it's a lovely remake. And of course I'm already shitting myself and regretting my purchase, lol. Also under £50, which is nice. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 18 Paid Members Posted March 18 Finished Pokémon Legends ZA the other night. There are plenty of post game quests and side quests which mostly comprise of Pokémon catching and battling themed fetch quests, which is fine by me as that's what I like most about the series. I feel like the main story got in the way of what was a fun old wander about and catch Pokémon game. Like Pokémon Go but without having to go outside. Plus when I last logged into PokeMongo I had some notifications from my mum, which wasn't expected. It does feel like some of the story battles are scripted, as I'll bring a Pokémon that has a massive level and type advantage, but it'll still get knocked out in one blow or, as happened with my Gyarados the other day it'll hop out of its ball onto the field, then immediately faint. The lock on and "surprise attack/caught unaware" mechanic in the battle zones feels like the toss of a coin. I've managed to knock out a Pokémon with an attack, but then the trainer's line of sight has fallen upon my character before the actual battle has initiated, and suddenly I'm the one who's been caught off guard, and so I have to fight the rival trainer's pokemon, then I suddenly can't lock onto it because there's something behind it that wasn't there before because the perspective has moved. It may sound like a minor gripe, but when it's one of the main mechanics in the game it can be a little inconvenient. The highlight was playing through it alongside Vicky and while she ploughed through the story I would be doing the little side quests and telling her about them so if there were any she felt would be useful to her she'd go and deal with them as well Anyway, Vicky and I will be playing through scarlet and violet next, but we will get around to Pokopia when we can both afford a copy. I've also been loving playing through Brotato from scratch again with the updates. Such a fun game. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted March 18 Paid Members Posted March 18 Finished playing Tinykin. Considered 100% but, as always, couldn't be arsed. Nice little game though, they should do a sequel. Started The Pedestrian. It's an extremely cool idea but not one I'd sit and play for hours, a good one to dip in and out of. Beautifully designed. Had a go at Mayhem in Single Valley but got bored very quickly of having to pick up dogshit. Super House of Dead Ninjas is a lot of fun. One of the few roguelikes I can tolerate because it's not completely reliant on you dying hundreds of times to get anywhere. Also started Firewatch, which I love already. Not sure where I stand on sad games but it reminds me a lot of Road 96 and I really liked that, too. Quote
