I'm going to see what I get for selling my old consoles to my local Geek Retreat. There are some really interesting routes on there, particularly the Manchester Piccadilly/airport one as it goes by so many stations I used to live near, to the point that in theory one of my previous addresses should be in the game. Honestly, if you’re thinking of getting a Series X, at this point I’d recommend a PS5 instead given that Xbox has gone multi-format. Pricing is similar, but you’d also get the PS5 exclusives. The Series S is a different kettle of fish, and Game Pass is still a good deal if that’s what you’re looking to do, but for me, the PS5 represents greater value. Quote

What's Train SIm World like? The new Wonder of Sodor game is based on that engine I believe and it looks great fun, but do wonder if it will be a bit complex. Quote

I loved it, but unfortunately in the space of about a year they stuck updates out which left it unplayable on my OG XBox one. They went from "we would never just churn out a yearly update" to "here's this year's update." if you have a decent PC then it'll be great. It's a lot more accessible than Train Simulator Classic as it was originally designed with consoles in mind so can be played entirely using just a controller, but it's very memory intensive, to the point that if I/when I get a Series X/S I'd probably only use it for TSW just to make sure there's enough memory/hard drive space to play it. There's also not always the quickest turnaround on the developer getting bugs fixed. It can be an expensive hobby, but I've lost hours to it. Quote

Here’s a video of (I assume) the developer playing it: Basically, you platform around carving up monsters to serve up to customers at your restaurant. I’m not really sure what to compare it to, but I’m incredibly impressed by it, and baffled by the lack of attention it’s had. I discovered it through a YouTube video, and I’d at least recommend wishlisting it. Quote
Paid Members JLM Posted March 29 Paid Members Posted March 29 I have a friend who spends about an hour on Tapper any time we go to Arcade Club, so the carcass levels look very relevant to his interests. Also played through Exit 8 with a friend last night. Took about two hours to finish it but that’s because we got fixated on looking for minor details that weren’t relevant. Should probably take about a hour. The game is a liminal spaces/search for anomalies game. First person perspective, you walk through a corridor in an underground station in Japan. The corridor loops endlessly. When you walk through it, if you notice anything weird you turn around and go back to the start, if everything seems fine you proceed without turning back. You need to successfully suss this out eight times in a row to make the exit appear. Has some fun psychological horror elements and it’s interesting how you end up playing against yourself at times, convincing yourself that something seems off when it’s been that way the past 30 times you looked at it. Short and sweet and was on sale for about 3 quid on steam. There is also a love action movie based on the game which I will definitely be watching. Quote
Paid Members Jazzy G Posted March 30 Paid Members Posted March 30 I've acquired an XBox Series S, and got the free update from Train Sim World 2 to Train Sim World 6. It's downloaded uodated/remastered versions of all the stuff I owned in previous iterations of the game. It looks and plays really well, and it's like slipping on an old pair of shoes. I had a tinker with the training centre mode, and then because this weekend they've got a free Thomas event on, presumably to try and pursuade people to buy Wonders of Sodor, I had a crack at the "tutorials" for Thomas and Diesel (not that one). The controls are simplified so much to make them accessible for younger players. It's pretty much driving game controls as regards acceleration and braking/reversing. The narrator from the show turns up, but it's not Ringo. The Fat Controller/Sir Topsham Hatt is absolute nightmare fuel, but it's a nice little campaign. I've got more than enough content to crack on at for now, but definitely have my eye on a couple of other routes to pick up in the future. I'll see what the sales are like on the XBox store. I also installed Train Sim Classic on my laptop, which can also be pretty fun, but is a lot more challenging than TSW. If you're not too sure about Wonders of Sodor, but want some Thomas action the TSW6 Thomas pack is £17.50 on XBox right now. I may wishlist Wonders as well, and see how discounts for that go. @FLipsmaybe I'll bring the old Sleepytime Express bedtime streams out of retirement over the summer. Quote
