First one the look of the levels are fairly similar throughout, and the effort to take what story it does have, you may as well just make a new game. I imagine Lylat Wars gave them more to work with plot wise and design. 

 

Edit: People are saying 64/lylatwars was a remake. If it is then it is in the looses possible terms.

For pure, just space fighting Star Wars Squadrons is good fun, and still looks stunning. Decent story too. It's not open world but varies up the mission types. 

It's only £3.50 on Xbox right now, till the 13th. Down from £35. So well worth giving a try, to see if it sticks.

Played The Many Pieces of Mr Coo. It's a point and click adventure. The animation is great, music is great and it's kind of funny. The problem is it is very short, and I think you'd struggle to complete it without using the hints. I got it last Christmas, I think full price is £18, if it was £8 or under on sale I'd recommend.

In a year where I’ve already played 2 potential games of the year in Resident Evil: Requiem and Pragmata (Capcom on fire), and with 007: First Light, Lego Batman, a little game called GTA 6 (inevitable further delay notwithstanding) and Wolverine on the horizon, it’s astounding that they may all come second to what I’ve played today.

Mixtape, come on down. A little under £14 on PlayStation if you’ve got PS Plus, it’s an absolutely wonderful game. A great story, a contender for the best game soundtrack ever created and left me feeling, well, all sorts of feelings. 

Skip the review videos, just play it.

I’d love to get someone else’s verdict on Mixtape. I bought it purely based on the universally high review scores it was getting. I played it, really enjoyed it and then pretty much the next day it was being slated in the dark corners of the internet for being “trash”, “not a game” and “industry plant”.

I got to about halfway through yesterday and I'm really enjoying it. Excellent writing, incredible music, it looks stunning and a bunch of the big moments made me smile.

 

I can see people bouncing off it though and thinking 'its not for me' after an hour or so. I think you would have to be very closed minded to not appreciate what it is doing though, and how well made it is.

I'm sure the Youtube fuckwits who make a living slagging stuff off, or anyone approaching it with an agenda could have a field day with it. But just ignore tools like that if you enjoyed it. Loads of people are loving it, and that is probably really winding up the people who set out to hate it. So enjoy that as well, plus you can laugh at them seething when it wins a bunch of awards over 'proper games' at all the big game awards.

I think the biggest complaint I've seen is that it totally ignores Hip-Hop while basing itself on the idea of a cassette mixtape, a culture directly out of the hip-hop scene.

That seems a daft complaint when the whole game is centered around the main girls music taste, and what has soundtracked her friendship with her two best friends. Which is mainly 80's/90's Alternative and post punk music.

That seems a really stupid complaint, given the context outlined by @Cousin Jim Bob and the fact mixtapes were not unique to hip-hop, they were just a thing people did. Perhaps they did originate in that scene, I don’t know - but given what the game is, there’s absolutely no reason the shoehorn that genre in there. It’s a tremendous game and I’m going to add my voice to the people recommending it. It’s almost certainly going to be a GOTY contender for me, but between this, Vampire Crawlers and Pokopia it’s a tight race so far.

They did, but it's still a very silly thing to fixate upon for a complaint. The definition of mixtape has moved so far beyond what the original meaning was, its taken on a whole new modern meaning.

Finished Mixtape now. That whole ending section got me good, might have shed a tear or two. It's an all time classic for me.
