Paid Members Supremo Posted July 11 Paid Members Posted July 11 Between Punk winning the belt on Raw and then Omega’s Title win closing out that phenomenal episode of Dynamite, it felt like there was serious buzz across the whole industry. Trust Smackdown to return balance to The Force by being so crushingly disappointing. Considering what a huge match Punk vs. Cody is, and how long they’ve held off on doing it, it was wildly underwhelming how they finally announced it. Way to further undermine the King of the Ring, too. A gruelling, month-long tournament to earn a Summerslam Title shot, it was already bad enough when the winner fucked the whole thing off. Even worse now that both Summerslam Title matches have been determined by Champions and Challengers going, “fancy a match?” and the other going, “yeah, go on then, I suppose.” This can’t have been the original plan. No way they teased Punk vs. Cody for this long, only to randomly announce it two weeks out. Whole thing felt like a panicked rush job. Did they not have advanced information about how bad the Summerslam ticket sales were? Did they only find out like the rest of us, when WrestleTix sent out that Tweet? Baron Corbin not even coming back as a Danhausen zombie, but as someone we’re supposed to take seriously as a credible contender to the US Title? Fucking hell. Considering how much they love to talk about Drew McIntyre and Cody Rhodes proving themselves after leaving WWE, it’ll be funny to see how they frame Corbin. ”We sacked him, he did fuck all for two years, but he did agree to come back significantly cheaper than what we previously paid Sheamus.” The crowd originally giving Corbin zero reaction, only to chant, “holy shit,” afterwards was the most obvious example ever of the WWE audience forcing themselves to have fun. Triple H sits in Gorilla, smiling. Enjoy your slop! Have FUN! Quote
FTR2020 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I for one am delighted with Corbin coming back. I was always a fan of his and I still think he can have a decent career in WWE. I reckon WWE are getting rid of high earners like The New Day and Sheamus and either bringing through younger wrestlers on lower paid contracts or bringing back guys like Corbin, Big Cass, Enzo etc who are happy to sign low pay contracts. TKO are a business like everyone else. Quote
DavidB6937 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 They do need to stop those shit "fighting champ" promos and then setting up a match elsewhere and pissing off the live crowd. Quote

It’s not justification for treating your employees in a way that demonstrates how little value you place in them. If TKO was struggling and making cuts to survive that would be one thing, but making cuts so that shareholders and those up top are the beneficiaries is shitty, and I hope the fact they’ve not costed in public opinion comes back to haunt them one day. Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted July 11 Paid Members Posted July 11 Bring a big tall white guy back to beat up the black guys two at a time and leave them laying, and not even a decent guy anyone cares about. Bazza Corbin. HHH learned from Vince that the white guy always wins. Trick Williams will be dancing within a month. Quote
Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted July 11 Paid Members Posted July 11 Baron Corbin is easily one of the worst wrestlers I've ever seen. Just a slow, uncoordinated berk who's too tall for his own brain, absolutely crap as a promo, no personality whatsoever. Always got a reflex "Oh fuck OFF" out of me every time he lumbered out for another boring match to make you wonder what you're doing with your life watching this shit. And they re-signed him. Quote
FTR2020 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 I mostly like Corbin from when he played a homeless person. He was funny then. I was hoping he stayed like that. Wrestling needs more homeless hobo characters. Bum Corbin ruled. Quote
Paid Members LaGoosh Posted July 11 Paid Members Posted July 11 (edited) Baron Corbin is a fucking idiot. He used to have that scraggly shit hair and he got fed up of the fans cussing it so he shaved himself bald. He was a heel! The fans are supposed to take the piss out of you! Crappy hair that gets a fan reaction is a good thing to have! And he didn't even have the brains to do a "babyface finally cuts off heels hair" angle which always work gangbusters. He just turned up bald one week. Absolute numpty. Edited July 11 by LaGoosh Quote
Paid Members TheBurningRed Posted July 11 Paid Members Posted July 11 Best thing about him is End Of Days. And he has had a couple of good themes. Jim Johnston’s last theme was one of them. He had a decent match with Kalisto at TLC and that’s it. He’s fucking shite other than that. Quote
Paid Members Lorne Malvo Posted July 11 Paid Members Posted July 11 (edited) I bloody love a Baron Corbin pile-on. One of my least favourite wrestlers of all time. Absolute dog shit. Constable Corbin was the worst authority figure they've ever done too, although it did lead to that funny moment where the McMahon family came out on Raw to apologise for the product being awful and they pretty much blamed it all on Corbin. Harsh but fair! Edited July 11 by Lorne Malvo Quote
d-d-d-dAz Posted July 11 Posted July 11 (edited) I'll be absolutely gutted if it turns out after all this time Punk and Cody have the same level of promo chemistry as Punk has in-ring chemistry with Seth Rollins. That was flat as fuck, wasn't it? Tony emerged from behind his sofa during that thinking 'I was worried about that?' Still, a return of an old favourite wrestling trope for me; building up the announcement of a big match for an event where the people in the audience won't be in attendance. You really can't leave those pregnant pauses after asking when a match should take place, as the only logical response from a live crowd is 'here, please.' Unless Baron Corbin has asked the question, obviously, at which point the answer becomes 'anywhere else, dickhead.' Edited July 11 by d-d-d-dAz Quote

I can't stand them but they are running it as a business. Wrestling fans and I include myself in this hate that someone would run the wrestling business as a business and get rid of wrestlers we are fond of like The New Day, Sheamus etc. Quote
