I just don't find the character interesting in that they are presenting absolutely everyone else below him in such a fashion that there's no match ups I want to see him in right now and it's a bit boring watching rinse and repeats of him battering people, talking down to the Usos and brooding like a mid 2000s emo kid when he doesn't get his own way. I get that the rumour is him and Cena at SummerSlam and if anyone can overcome him it'd be Cena but outside of that they're doing such a bad job building anyone else up to face him it's making me avoid SmackDown now too. That being said, Seth Rollins' suits just get better every week, so I have absolutely no concept of taste. Â Â Â I'm still all in with Roman. I get what you're saying with bringing people up to his level but that doesn't ruin my enjoyment of him. It'll make the pay off all the sweeter when they finally have someone step up and be able to overcome him. It's such a rarity that they actually book a champion to look strong and dominant. They're getting it completely right with him at the moment. Him mixing up the Usos names this week for example - so simple but worked perfectly. His entire manipulation of them all night was great actually. I know an argument can be made for dragging it out too long etc but I'm glad they're committing to it. They need to invest in characters and storylines because they don't do it very often. They now just need to build up some people around him. Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted June 5, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 5, 2021 The name mix up bit admittedly was fantastic. Like the battering of Rey, a smaller, older wrestler and Dominik, a young but not fully polished rookie makes sense, but between that and him battering Bryan, Edge, Cesaro and whoever else its got a bit repetitive, but as you say, it is good they're making a champion look strong. It just seems like they're cutting off any momentum someone may get before they get to his level. Big E was an unfortunate casualty of that with Black being released and him now stuck somewhere in the middle waiting for something to do. FUM
I really normally enjoy SmackDown but you can almost time it getting a bit stale to when Daniel Bryan left, which I'm assuming meant his ideas were gone from the writing team as well. Reigns is obviously still great but it does feel a bit weak that no-one is stepping up saying they want a title shot just now.

Might be why they're going with the Mysterios stuff now to maybe kill some time? It's not the direction I saw them going but it kinda makes sense. There's not really anyone that could step up and seem legitimate at the moment. I know there's rumours of Cena at Summerslam which would be great short term but they definitely need to build someone else up to eventually be a credible opponent. With Big E at a loose end now I'd get behind him pretty fast.
Perry
It's interesting that SummerSlam will take place in a stadium in Las Vegas with a potential 72,000 fans. Another interesting point is that it's going to be a Saturday. If we get Reigns V Cena, the card will look better than WrestleMania 37 with that match alone.
The King of Old School
Imagine Cena/Reigns and Lesnar/Lashley as the two main events. No doubt they will make this there "Wrestlemania" this year and make it about 9 hours long though.
Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted June 6, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 6, 2021 9 titles on the main roster (plus the 24/7 shenanigans) before you get to a non title feud, even if all those don't get defended it's definitely going at least 5 hours and a pre show. Winston
Would be interesting seeing Cena back trying to get Flair's World Title record. Even though he's aged quite a lot and lost a lot of size I'm not sure how he'd look standing across from Roman at the moment but it would still be a good story line. Perry
According to the poster for SummerSlam, the PPV will begin at 8 so I don't think it'll run longer than 4 hrs. Can't see a PPV with a stadium full of fans go on until 1am their time. Apparently the Manny Pacquiao fight will also take place in Vegas on the same night.

Las Vegas is 7hrs behind GMT, which mean it starts at 6pm locally, so it’s very possible that we could be in for a long night. Also, the main event of Wrestlemania 35 didn’t get underway until gone midnight Edited June 6, 2021 by WyattSheepMask
Perry
I forgot about the time difference for Vegas. Looks like it will be a 6 hr show then
Paid Members Supremo Posted June 12, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 12, 2021 (edited) I caught the second half of Smackdown tonight - my first time watching Raw or Smackdown since Wrestlemania. It was alright. Nowhere near worthy of the praise it sometimes gets on here but definitely a million times better than Raw. Roman Reigns has still got it. New music! Finally! I can understand why people would be bored of him if they watched weekly but there’s no denying he’s head and shoulders above everyone else. Of course, that’s half the problem. No-one else feels like a threat or anywhere close to his level. It’s all going to be worth it though if the rumours of Big Match John returning for Summerslam are true. That’s going to be huge if they go through with it. Real main event feel. Funilly enough, it was the most innocuous of moments that I thought was the most noteworthy. During the Baron Corbin match Michael Cole mumbled something about Corbin fumbling his crown just like he fumbled footballs during his NFL career. The tone of it stood out massively. I’ve no problem with commentators slagging off the heels - Tony Schiavone having absolutely no time for Don Callis or MJF and endlessly calling them out for being pricks is one of my favourite things in wrestling - but this wasn’t like that at all. It was such a snide, shitty little dig. It didn’t get Corbin over as a heel, nor Cole over as a babyface. It didn’t even push the story. If anything, I wanted Corbin to find out Cole had said it and knock him out. It was typical of WWE in that it felt like a snarky, twatty comment to pop the boss. I know AEW vs. WWE discussions can be tiresome, but that one moment highlighted a huge difference in why I’ll never miss a Dynamite but barely watch any WWE these days. Jim Ross aside, AEW feels like a show written, produced and performed by people in a relatively good mood. Corny, feel-good moments are always around the corner. That’s almost never the case with WWE. Beyond Bianca Belair at Wrestlemania, I’d struggle to think of any. It’s a show that feels written, produced and performed by people in a bad mood. A terrible combination of snides, bullies and people sulking through the motions, where the toxic working environment seeps into the product everywhere you look. Smiles on faces, indeed. Paid Members I Bent My Wookie Posted June 12, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 12, 2021 (edited) I didn't think that was Cole that said that about Corbin, I thought it was McAfee, being an ex footballer and who's character is neither a face or heel, rather a snidy prick and how Pat used to room with Corbin back in the day. Paid Members GlennCullen Posted June 12, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 12, 2021 That doesn't even make sense, Corbin was an Offensive Lineman. Sure it wasn't Cole?
Paid Members Nick James Posted June 12, 2021 Paid Members Share Posted June 12, 2021 That ending is exactly the type of stuff they should have been doing while fans haven't been in. Just genuinely, terrifying stuff that didn't look hokey or cut away long enough to hide the crash mat. Camera trickery that I didn't know WWE even had in them anymore in the era of 50 cuts per minute. Whilst I agree, no one seems to be on Romans level, it's great to have such a dominating champion for the first time in years, a champion that doesn't go 50/50 in each feud, a champion that doesn't say daft stuff like 'suffering succotash' , a champion that knows his worth and refuses to go anywhere in the card other than first or last. Maybe if more people knew their worth or acted their worth in WWE, there would be more force for change. I'm all in with Roman, the one act in the whole company I will go out of my way to watch the each segment he is involved in.
