Paid Members tiger_rick Posted April 30, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted April 30, 2020 Nearly did a Sid at the end. Mongo was amazingly terrible.
Snitsky's back acne
Has it ever been revealed what, if any, training he had and who did it? One of these Bischoff podcasts needs a Mongo episode as he was apparently quite the partier too.
Paid Members Lion_of_the_Midlands Posted April 30, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted April 30, 2020 Mongo played in the NFL when there was a lot of partying. He played for the Bears while Jim McMahon was there and they turned the partying all the way up to 11. So partying in wrestling would have been a natural fit for Mongo. While he clearly can't wrestle he was tough. "Iron" Mike Ditka who was head coach of the Bears and famously a pretty tough guy himself says that Mongo was the toughest player he ever coached. It's no surprise he lasted as long as he did in WCW.
CavemanLynn
Mongo's one of those guys I've not heard anything bad said about by the boys. Flair especially seemed to love him. Tough as nails, athletic background, and able to hold his liquor so no wonder they thought he was Horseman material despite being drizzling in the ring. He also didn't seem to take himself too seriously outside the ropes, with that ridiculous tiny dog and the wild-eyed mic work.
Paid Members garynysmon Posted April 30, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted April 30, 2020 (edited) You know what, I genuinely liked Steve McMichael in a totally non-ironic way back in the day. This was mostly pre-internet so I hadn't been influenced by the opinion of others and  my lack of exposure to the inner workings hadn't opened my eyes to how terribly green and inept he was in the ring either. Granted, my fondness was almost wholly based on his outstanding theme music, but still. (But looking back, it shocks me they allowed him to perform piledrivers, given his experience level!)  Edited April 30, 2020 by garynysmon

Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted May 5, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted May 5, 2020 Was it someones sick joke to give Mongo the tombstone as a finish? A man known for fucking up the most basic of things, like walking, and they allow him to spike people on their heads? Madness.

Only WCW could have allowed something like that, which is probably why I'm so nostalgic for a time when everything wasn't perfect and had no pretence of being so. Its remarkable that despite being part of Turner/Time Warner and what should be a corporate entity from head to toe, so much shit fell through the cracks.
Paid Members IANdrewDiceClay Posted May 5, 2020 Paid Members Share Posted May 5, 2020 (edited) Scott Hall called her a dumb bitch who needed a personality transplant. Which I believe falls into that "not quite getting the comedic spirit of the original tweet" catagory. You can take these wrestlers out of the 90s, but you cant take the 90s out of them.
