What's the surprise?

They are potatoes but made from kebab meat.

A chippy near me in Cov did roast potatoes but that was in County Coundon and knew it’s clientele were friends of potatoes.

Normally they're covered in a spice mix and/or batter of some description (depending on the chippy) before they're thrown in the fryer.  Some places we go to clearly use the same stuff they whack on the southern fried chicken.

(the other surprise being the amount of time that light batter coating will trap in the heat)

Are these whole potatoes?

In Doncaster there was a single town centre chippy that sold them as potato wedges, 10p each. Nobody I know could tell you the name of the chippy, everyone knew it as Greasy Moes. Even over a decade after Moe left the country.

It got closed down in 2013 after it was found they were selling drugs out of the back of the shop. Now it's a posh restaurant.

Popeyes in Cov used to and may still do "spicy" potatoes. Similar to roasties with a fried spicy coating similar to spicy wedges.

Reccomended.

I don't think these made it as far as the abbey.

I’ve found them in Chelmsford and Harlow. Great after a night out to eat on the way home instead of a bag of chips. But I don’t think they replace chips for a proper chippy tea.
