WyattSheepMask
We’ve had the Kebabs at the Chippy debate, now it’s the Roasties turn to get in on the action
Paid Members PunkStep Posted February 19, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted February 19, 2022 Potato Surprise is fucking boss. And they've been around for years too, my mum used to get them from Top Fry in Hoddesdon town centre before it burned down in the 90s. Paid Members Hannibal Scorch Posted February 19, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted February 19, 2022 Certain parts of Essex sell them as Southern Fried Potatoes but they are rarely seen. Tends to be hybrid chippy/kebab shops rather then chippys. But they are lovely

(the other surprise being the amount of time that light batter coating will trap in the heat) Are these whole potatoes?

Paid Members ReturnOfTheMack Posted February 19, 2022 Paid Members Share Posted February 19, 2022 In Doncaster there was a single town centre chippy that sold them as potato wedges, 10p each. Nobody I know could tell you the name of the chippy, everyone knew it as Greasy Moes. Even over a decade after Moe left the country. It got closed down in 2013 after it was found they were selling drugs out of the back of the shop. Now it's a posh restaurant.
Mr_Danger
I imagine Greasy Moes drug dealing battered potato emporium was still pretty posh by Doncaster standards.

Similar to roasties with a fried spicy coating similar to spicy wedges. Reccomended.

True enough. After midnight you weren't allowed in if you had blood on your Kappa trackies, he had to keep up appearances.

I’ve found them in Chelmsford and Harlow. Great after a night out to eat on the way home instead of a bag of chips. But I don’t think they replace chips for a proper chippy tea.
