Can't believe there's this many of you that don't know how to use an oven.

What I don't get is if I should've been preheating my oven another 10 minutes, how does half of what I cook end up burned anyway?!

That's because you've put the food in the oven before it's properly hot so the food doesn't cook evenly.

Absolute losers in the pocket of big oven, slaves to a small light.

We're all over here enjoying our extra 5 minutes of life and our unevenly cooked food like rock stars.

Here was I thinking an extra five minutes to cremate my pizzas would do the job...

Ovens that emit a noise or an LED light coming on to tell you your oven is preheated is simply not true, isnt it? Would be curious to be proven wrong if anyone can say they have ever heard of such a thing, let alone had/seen an oven do this.

Our current oven beeps and displays a message to say the oven has reached the right temperature, so some ovens definitely do.  Our last one didn't have the display but did still beep to alert that preheating was complete.

Ours has a light that turns off when it hits the right temperature, ours also has a visual temperature guage so I can see that the two things correlate

I just hope none of you are pre-heating air fryers.

Ahem, I do. The rules say so.

I preheat it when there's a genuine need for something to be going in at a hot temperature. E.g. if I'm cooking salmon a couple minutes of preheating with some oil sprayed in makes a world of difference in stopping the skin from sticking.

Our oven beeps when it's up to temperature.  However, it's fairly new.  The gas cooker I had 25 years ago didn't.

I will gladly say I was in the wrong about ovens beeping when up to temperature then! Visual temperature gauges and lights going on and off when the correct temperature has been hit too, ive learnt a lot today about Ovens
