Paid Members tiger_rick Posted May 27, 2025 Paid Members Posted May 27, 2025 TIL that Monaco has a new district, Mareterra, that is built on land reclaimed from the sea in a pretty incredible project. There's a video below on it that explains it pretty well for dum-dums like me. Put it in spoiler tags because you might not like the channel, it's a bit wanky but pretty interesting. Spoiler Quote

This doesn't always work for me, but if you select the "Web" tab underneath the search bar on the results page (it's usually under the "More" at the end for me), that will only include web results, no AI whatsoever. deathrey Posted May 29, 2025 Posted May 29, 2025 Apparently if you swear in the search box i.e put fuck at the end of your search term it doesn't use AI. I've not tested this, my sister has and said it worked Quote

Members SuperBacon Posted June 2, 2025 Members Posted June 2, 2025 Black Sabbath Iron Man wasn't originally titled that. "Upon hearing Tony Iommi's main guitar riff at rehearsal for the first time, vocalist Ozzy Osbourne remarked that it sounded "like a big iron bloke walking about", with "Iron Bloke" quickly becoming a placeholder title as the band developed the song" I AM IRON BLOKE! Paid Members Carbomb Posted June 2, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 2, 2025 TIL that Ronald Lacey, who played Toht in Raiders of the Lost Ark, played an uncredited role as Heinrich Himmler in The Last Crusade - he's on the dais with Hitler, and he's even wearing the same glasses. Looks like Toht with a moustache. Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted June 4, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 4, 2025 TIL that there was an English Armada, following the defeat of the Spanish one. Am not surprised that it's kept comparatively quiet in this country, as it was a total defeat for England. According to Wiki: Quote
Paid Members DEF Posted June 11, 2025 Paid Members Posted June 11, 2025 TIL 1080i HD VHS existed. D-VHS was released in 1997 but didn't have any studio backing until 2002 when D-Theater was released. They had copy protection at that point and where supposed to rival HDDVD and Blu-ray. Only 90 movies were released on the format and the players cost 1.5k. Quote

A very popular company for cricket bats to this day. Quote
