Paid Members BomberPat Posted October 23, 2024 Paid Members Posted October 23, 2024 That was fucking dreadful. The car chase felt about ten minutes long by the one minute mark, just the least dynamic editing/directing imaginable, and then they just hammer you over the head with the joke at the end in case you're the thickest person alive and didn't get the reference. Paid Members Devon Malcolm Posted October 24, 2024 Paid Members Posted October 24, 2024 The best non-Bond Lazenby film is The Man from Hong Kong. Quality action film. He plays the main villiain and is rocking this look. Quote
Just Some Guy Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 That looks like a still from a British 1970s sex comedy rather than a quality action film. Quote

Dr. Alan Grant Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Lazenby has a look of a young Dennis Hopper there. Quote

Paid Members Carbomb Posted October 30, 2024 Paid Members Posted October 30, 2024 (edited) TIL, following the discussion of Ali Dia and looking up his article on Wiki, that there were a number of con-men footballers, the worst of which appears to have been a Brazilian "footballer" called Carlos Kaiser, who signed with loads of clubs, including Flamengo (twice), Vasco da Gama, and Fluminense, but feigned injury to never ever have to play: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlos_Kaiser_(footballer) EDIT: There was one instance when the owner at the club he was at at the time insisted on seeing him played in a match, at which point he deliberately got into a fight with supporters at the touchline and got himself sent off. Amazing. EDIT2: The rabbit-hole deepens! There was a Yugoslav player called Zivko Lukic - he was PSG's first ever foreign player, and he conned his way on to the team. This is superb. Moderators Chest Rockwell Posted October 30, 2024 Moderators Posted October 30, 2024 I was all ready to tell you to keep it in the football thread but after reading the wiki that is a pretty amazing and impressive ruse! Quote
Paid Members Carbomb Posted November 5, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 5, 2024 ...that brown French mustard, the one that Colman's used to do, was never actually French, and was invented by Colman's as an attempt to make a "classy" mustard to put on steak. Pretty much exclusive to the UK. They stopped making it (seems the EU ordered them to), but supermarkets still have their own versions. Quote

Paid Members Surf Digby Posted November 6, 2024 Paid Members Posted November 6, 2024 Today I learned about the existence of The Brighton and Rottingdean Seashore Electric Railway, or the "Daddy Long Legs" as it was known locally. A tram/train/boat/thing on 23 foot high legs than ran on twin rails set 18 feet apart. I had to go and research it properly, because I wasn't convinced the picture that showed up on Facebook wasn't just some AI creation from a steampunk enthusiast. But no, the thing was real, and it was absolutely bonkers. What's really cool though, is because the rails were so wide, the remains can be clearly seen on Google Maps. I feel the need for a south coast road trip next year. Quote
