The way I’m going, I’ll be making a “TIL I learned I’m heavier than Peter Griffin” post in about 6 months. There’s nothing quite like weighing yourself for the first time in years and needing a moment to take it in.

TIL Penfold from Danger Mouse is a hamster - I always thought he was a mole.

I also learned that was voiced by Kevin Eldon.

incidentally, I only recently learned that Penfold is the name for an old Victorian postbox design, so his name is presumably a reference to that, given that their base is in a postbox.

I recently learned that Tom Cruise was originally cast as Captain Planet, and recorded the first six episodes. His schedule got in the way and he dropped out, so it was re-recorded with a different voice actor.

For the first few series, when the money and support was there, they used a lot of stars and the animation was "better". As it went on, the guys they couldn't afford dropped out (Meg Ryan, Jeff Goldblum, etc.) and it was a lesser looking show.

On the new Danger Mouse acting front, the only "famous" person I'd claim to know or be friendly with is a guy called Rasmus Hardiker, who was Steve Coogan's apprentice in Saxondale and has played Duckula, some of the Thunderbirds pilots and does other on screen and voice acting appearances. He's the guy who went to the King about his sheep in House of the Dragon. Only know him because he goes to the same Transformers convention I go to every August.

This is TIL for me but I always thought Captain Planet was a one or two season 80's/90's cartoon failure like M.A.S:K. or something that then disappeared. I'm kind of amazed it got 6 seasons.

Even as a kid at that time who would watch any old shite. I remember watching a few episodes and noping out.

It was Ted Turner's passion project, even more than WCW. I listened to this podcast the other day about it (Decoder Ring is superb).

It's like the final seasons of TMNT, when David Wise had left as the head writer and they revised the look with the red sky, new theme tune, different animation style, shuffling Shredder and Krang off to be replaced by Lord Dregg. Not a show worth wasting time with at that point.

And Terry Scott originally.

Terry turned up to the recording session in sunglasses and a flouncy silk shirt, open almost all the way to his waist to show off his big medallion, and expected it to be some sort of "event" where he'd be treated like a star.

TIL that Joan Hickson's middle name was Bogle.

George Lazenby played Bond a second time in an 80s Man From Uncle movie.

The composer's brief must have been "make it sound as close to actual Bond music as you can without us getting sued."
