I watched the Dumbo remake and found it perfectly acceptable.  Maybe it was because it felt so "Big Fish", and that isn't a criticism in any way.  Thought Dumbo was cute as well.

I think it works because it’s less a remake and more a continuation of the story. Plus Michael Keatons not Walt Disney, but totally Walt Disney inspired villain is great. I wish it had been better recurved then that Lion King remake

Someone on here said they loved Robot Jox at some point and I want to pick a fight with them about it because it bored the utter arse off me.

I did say that, but I also should point out I was thirteen when I saw it, and was

1. easily impressed by sci-fi and giant robots fighting

2. buzzed from being able to stay up and watch it on The Movie Channel at 1am in the summer holidays, along with shonky sci-fi dystopian film Quarantine (not the big budget one), and then watch the various softcore porns with Shannon Tweed, Chase Masterson, et al. If they didn't show up, I'd switch to L!ve TV and catch The Blue Review with Emily Booth/Bouffante.

So my viewpoint was massively skewed, and I probably wouldn't enjoy it now.

He was so cute it was unbelievable, he made Paddington bear look like an ugly bastard with a terrible personality.

Vanessa Kirby is utterly delightful though, someone give her her own franchise.

She's amazing, she was amazing in the Mission Impossible film last year as well.  She's really come out of nowhere as an action star, I think she's just got this innate steel about her that translates well to the genre, plus obviously she's a bloody good actress.  She reminds me a little bit of Emma Thompson for some reason.

She was definitely the standout in Hobbs and Shaw, this Summers biggest let down for me. I think my favourite bit of fantasy is the bit where she is only supposed to be a couple of years younger then Statham

It's madness if she's not in the next two, but that franchise has a spotty history with female characters to say the least. But she did so much with what was a comparatively small role.

An obscure low budget Canadian Hitchcock type thriller from 1975.

"On the rocks and on the open road of rural Ontario, a crummy husband and his weary wife find themselves careening off a bridge when a petty squabble over a get-rich-quick scheme accelerates into a revelation of infidelity. Both survive, but when the husband discovers his wife’s critical condition, he plans to leave her to die in a calculated ploy to collect a hefty life insurance payout. However, his cruel intentions are complicated when a good samaritan happens by the accident and offers to help. What ensues is a wickedly taut and unpredictable cat-and-mouse thriller that evokes the likes of the Coen Brothers’ BLOOD SIMPLE as it confidently crackles towards its nerve-shredding climax.".

Thought this was a very good taut thriller. Very small cast but it was tense enough to keep you watching to see just what's going to happen. It's stripped down and the low bugdet nature from the performances don't alter the fact that this really is a bit of a lost gem.

Just watched The Banana Splits Movie, where the 60s TV show maintained its popularity over the years and is still going strong today, except the Splits are now animatronics rather than actors in suits. They go haywire when the show is cancelled by the network, and a post-show meet and greet goes more than a little bit wrong. Quite liked the premise, but the film itself is dreadful. Shitty jokes and one-liners that don't work, the characters are all absolute pricks (very much "I don't want to watch this person" rather than a "can't wait to see them get killed" sort of way), some of the acting is diabolical (which is to be expected in a film like this, but it could at least be excused if everything else was semi-decent), and the kills aren't anywhere near horrible or funny enough to be entertaining. Banana fucking Shits, mate.

I was really excited when I saw the premise, but you're right, it's fucking appalling. The weird choice to have them be animatronics when it's clearly people in suits was obviously because this got pitched as 'Five Nights at Freddy's but it's the Banana Splits'. The budget must have been about 20p considering how sparse it all was, in that big empty studio with about 15 people in the audience. I felt sick at what a waste of a great idea it was. We'll not get another chance at a slasher Banana Splits and they blew it.
